Red mud removal

I never bid on a entire job of solely red mud removal. Normally its a house wash with a small section and i say $50 more with a shoulder shrug. Not sure how to price this other than by the hour but im only guessing at how long it’ll take. Its a hardi board house with a brick base. Its a new house and he has pine straw down now so the red mud will not splash on it now when it rains. The rud mud is 3 feet up fromnthe ground on the brick only.

How are yall charging by the hour or sqft? I was thinking .50 - .75 cent a sqft. Sounds good to me. Ive used aluminium brightener on something like this before its only $8 a gallon.

Pictures please

But its just your average house with red mud on the bottom of the brick

About 5000 sqft.

I could get him to send pics tomorrow but if your from SC its something you woukd see everyday

Va but we run into same thing hot water house wash. If stained after that try ox acid light mix to start

I recently did a large red clay stain removal job. I charged .15 sq ft and then I added on what my F9 efflo would cost.

Oxalic never came to mind for red mud. Is that your go to for it?

Ya i thought of f9 effl but id rather use something cheaper and make more profit thats stuff is high.

In va the red mud as you call it is mostly iron in the soil getting splashed up. So in theory its rust works well for us not sure about your location but its worth a try start light work your way up

I got 10 pounds of ox in the shop ill mix up some in the pump up to try if the aluminium brightener doesnt work well. If all else fail muriatic acid  nah thay stuff is to harsh and im not experienced with it.

Just looked it up it is high in iron. Most all clay is.

Washed a detention center this winter and the entire base was covered in red Georgia clay. Hit it with muriatic acid and it came off nice. I let it dwell about ten minutes.

Muriatic Acid - start with 10:1 ratio (water to acid) and work your way up if needed. Be sure to test a small area as not all brick can handle acid. I watch a lot of masonry videos and this one guy was showing 8-9 different types of brick that he was spraying with an acid wash and a couple of them the brick reacted badly (like it was eating away at it, while all the rest were fine).

Only use a m acid with a buffer in it otherwise it can effect the motor. But the ox acid will work we do it all the time it’s just rust once you get the heavy dirt offf

Yep same concept always test a spot first but ox acid will take it off gotta let it dwell AMD keep it wet definitely should follow with hot water but a cold water machine will work alsoUploading: 20190522_131504.jpg…

That’s all I use is ox. I did order some F9 but haven’t got to try it yet. I did a small area on a pool deck the other day and lady couldn’t believe I was able to get the stains out. But most just deal with the rust because they don’t want the upcharge, same as gutter brightening. $1 a sf<ugly red stains. Lol

Worse here is a pic of a not so bad part. I came by and looked at it and did a test spot with oxalic. That didnt work at all maybe because im useing cold water. I hit it with “lume bright” and it came right off i can get it for $45 for 5 gallons. The house is brand new and he insisted i wash the whole house and its not even dirty so off my head i said $900 and he was all over it :person_shrugging:. 3000 square feet blue vynal house.

I just did a deck this morning that why i had oxalic mixed up. I tried it on another houses concrete where the left a piece on metal on the ground and it didnt do anything on the rust. I guess ill be ordering f9. My ratio was one cup per gallon. I added more to the mix and still did nothing.

Interesting I did 1 1/5 cups per gallon and a light wire brushing for about a 1x1 spot and it got it all up. I let it sit for 7 mins. It wasn’t heavy at all though. I’ve yet to come across a really bad spot but I’ll scout one out to use the F9. I think ox works best on vinyl although 2 cups per gallon did clean some tan stucco on a 14,000 sf beach house I did in Mirimar though but again it wasn’t too dark.
