Rebuilding General Pump worth it?

Just picked up a Simpson Water Shotgun with a GX390 and a GP T-Series 47 (TS1811) pump on it. The engine runs strong but the pump doesn’t work. It’s got oil all over it and nothing in the sight glass and I don’t know the history on it. I was planning on rebuilding the entire pump. After some research I’m finding alot of people saying it’s not worth it and just to buy a new pump.

I just use it around my house and my friend’s houses. I don’t have a business. It might see 50 hours a year max. I love buying commercial stuff because it’s better quality and lasts longer. Plus the price on this was too good to pass up. I’d like to fix this, use it myself, and if it’s too much machine or too much hassle I’ll sell it. There’s a small chance I may use it for a small side hustle down the road as well. With that in mind, is this a quality pump and is it worth rebuilding?

Alot of people suggest Udor pumps and they seem to have a pretty solid reputation. I guess I would need something middle-of-the-road. I’m not a contractor trying to bang out as many jobs as possible in the shortest time, I’m a side-job hobbyist. What should I be looking for PSI and GPM wise?

I absolutely will not buy anything from Amazon, please don’t suggest it.

This is a forum for washing contractors. Your best bet would be call a professional contractor if you need something washed. If you decide to go the washing for hire route, come back with all you COI’s and research awhile on what skids to buy.

Looks like they run about $600 - $700 new so if you’re mechanically inclined and know how to rebuild them, sure why not.

Try youtube for how to rebuild. Several videos on rebuilding the GP pumps. Relatively simple if you’re mechanically inclined. That pump will be fine for what you need. You’ll probably need a rebuild kit which you can find at most distributors - but you need to tear it down and see what’s wrong with it so you can get the right rebuild kit first. May just be an oring. Try Southside equipment or The Powerwash store. Or you can ship it off and have rebuilt, no idea on the cost of that.

I’m extremely mechanical, I’ve been working on all sorts of machinery for a living for years. I’d love to rebuild this one, just don’t want to waste money if it makes more sense in the long run to buy a new one.
