Reattach bypass hose?

I bought this machine recently which has a bypass hose on it. I don’t have a tank to run it to, so how can block the bypass or re-attach it?

Can you just take it off and cap the hole?

Just make sure you don’t let it run more than a minute off the trigger.

Just tie it to the frame and have it bypass the water onto the ground for now. It will keep the pump running cool. People will say your wasting water but don’t realize they dump either whole or part of buffer tank before they leave a house…so it all works out. Once you get a buffer tank then you’ll be good. You’ll have to elevate it some for gravity with a direct drive. If it doesn’t have a plug in the bottom you’ll have to plug it

That’s what I’m wondering. I’m just doing residential and I don’t really want to waste more water than I need to. Also, it’s soaking the yard.

No, you can’t cap the bypass. Unless you want a spectacular pump and/or unloader failure.

Lol. I was going to stay quite on that one. Karma would have probably gotten me.

If a buffer tank is absolutely not in the cards for you right now, get one of these:

IMO, bypassing to the ground looks very hack-ish.

I know @Infinity said it already but under no circumstances should you cap the bypass line. Run it back into the intake

Looks like a VRT3 (blue/no handle) unloader.

It says on it where to plumb it to.

In/out/bypass. That pipe already comes from bypass and needs to go into the bottom of that unloader.

If you’re not using a tank, the longer that hose, the better - consider looping up a few feet.

Could just get a cheap plastic 55 gal drum off Craigslist or FB marketplace, turn it into a buffer tank, and wallah, no more worrying about burning up your unloader and pump. I’ve got 2 of them I picked up for free, just because I kept my eyes open around town and asked. Heck, if you were close to me, I’d give you one.
