When running my heater usually it’s not to smokey but lately black smoke plumes come out pretty thick.
Could it be bad diesel bad fuel filter or something else? TIA

Black smoke is incomplete burning fuel. Since it is “all of the sudden” im going to guess that the carb adjustment on the blower fan was not moved. Make sure your fuel nozzle is clean. Put a fuel pressure gauge on the fuel pump and make sure it is putting out enough pressure to completely atomize your fuel.
replacing the filter is also a good place to start if you dont have a gauge
