Questions about vinyl fence situations

Sorry in advance as these will probably be dumb questions to the guys with experience. Take this fence pictured below.

  1. If doing in spring/ summer, there would be lots of leaves on other side of fence, and also flowers in the dirt bed right on other side. If I spray my mix at the whole fence (which I’d have to bc the top with the holes is dirtiest) won’t it get all over the stuff on the other side and possibly the flowers. So do I have to talk to that other homeowner about it before I do anything? Or do I just spray lots of plain water through the holes before I start?

  2. Do most people want BOTH sides of a fence cleaned? I assume not, but just curious. And if this particular person DID want both sides cleaned, then I would have to talk to the owner behind the fence since I assume I’d have to use their yard right?

Thanks for reading.

I had a customer who wanted the entire fence done…interior and exterior (except for one side because that neighbor had their own fence). The customer notified the other neighbor that I would be walking in their yard to do that side of the fence.

As for the other scenario of mix hitting the other side, I have just mentioned it to the neighbor to just water them down, along with me watering them down.

Spray at an angle, very little pass through as apposed to straight on. 1.5 - 2% solution.

vinyl fences can be tough to wash, sometimes the normal softwash you would use on a vinyl house or even a roof mix wont always clean it. Sometimes brushing is necessary, I learned the hard way …

Most ppl only want the fence on their side done, I know im not paying to have my neighbors side washed lol …

Most of the people in my HOA want the back side done considering it’s facing a pond or the woods. The problem is that the wooded side is usually beyond disgusting. I’m currently using a pump sprayer with a roof mix. It’s honestly satisfying to watch it all turn brown.

I assume you simply double the price when they want the backside done as well? Or maybe more than double if it’s super dirty like the ones you mentioned and/or tough to get to?

Honestly, if they tell me they want sides a, b, and c done, plus the back side of a and b, because I measure them I multiply the square footage of a and b by two and add c to it. Hopefully that made sense.

As for the chemical, I just use a little stronger mix from the start, having determined it when I show up for the estimate. So what may take a house wash mix, another may take a roof mix. I don’t really adjust the cost amount as it’s easy for me to get it done and I try to upsell something else while I am at it.

That’s not very dirty. Water grass both sides, hit with strong HW mix, let dwell for 10 min and then rinse with fairly strong pressure, like 1200 - 1500 psi. It’s vinyl.
