Question on 12V softwash system

My 12v SW pump is a 5.5gpm.
I have the various tips on my softwash j-rod. I have 1/2" flexzilla hose.

When I hold the trigger on my wand with the small diameter tips (on j-rod) I can run it all day and the 12v pump handles it fine. When I switch to the bigger diameter tips for more volume the pump can’t keep up and the pressure is only able to run for 10 seconds before pressure goes way down and the pump can’t recover.

I don’t use this 12v system a bunch and honestly don’t recall if I could previously run the bigger tips without issues or not.

Any suggestions on where to look?

I mean, tip could be too big, and is overworking the pump, they only pump so many gpms…could be the pump, ours get replaced all the time, but they run a lot of hours too…

try a slightly smaller orifce :man_shrugging:

Time for a new pump. I use a 5.5 for a bleach transfer with no end on hose.

Thanks Rick and JA!

I was thinking maybe it was just bad…I make sure each truck has a new spare on board, and one on the shelf every spring

I’ll build on that even more and tell you to install plastic camlock fittings. That way you can set one up with 2 half inch nipples taped and ready to go swapping pumps is as easy as popping off camlocks and putting on the new pump. Saves time in the field and you look super pro while doing so

I only buy the Flojet which has built in QC ports…but yes, that is a must. Also a standard spade connection so you can also put the new ones on the wires in the shop would be good if you don’t have that too. We can be on the spare pump in like 2 minutes, and mount it when back in the shop

We use Flojet too….seem to hold up well…easy to change when needed.
