Question for those who also do window cleaning

I agree. That is how we have done it for many years also. We are now at a place where we add value to the customer if we can take care of one more service for them while we are there.

edit. I moved it to Thad thread in private area

I only do interior and exterior on the commercial jobs. I don’t even want to mess with exteriors on the house jobs we do. We did maybe 50 houses this year. Our primary business is GREASE and commercial real estate. So this year we picked up some reall nice window cleanings, quarterly outside semi annual inside.

As Thad said. CleanER windows.

That’s a nice way put it.

I suppose what your main offering is determines the extent to which you want to go with other services.
My main thing is window cleaning and I get a little irritated when they only want outsides, since they won’t get the full wow effect of what I did. But what you guys say is very true, there is way more profit in just doing outsides. I just can’t guarantee their windows will look amazing if they don’t have me do insides.

Adding a pure water cleaning for a charge is a great idea as much or most of the work has already been done with the wash.

We started as window cleaning that did pressure washing. Now we are full service exterior cleaning company. We take clients from other companies because they do not do windows. We are in the process of cutting out all interior window advertising. If they want it sure, if not with multiple trucks running it makes life so much easier. If no insides no need for us to have two guys on a job. Soft wash a house and wfp the exteriors and roll out.

Thanks Brian, I’m glad to know that works for you, that’s exactly what I’m going for.

Thad,
Just wondering why you dropped interior windows? I HATE going into houses to do interiors, moving furniture, knick knacks etc… How/why did you drop interiors?

Profits plummet and liability skyrockets the moment we step foot inside.

Plus, I don’t like it.

I’d say the fact that some still do insides could be a marketing opportunity for them.
Admittedly, insides usually do take longer and are more of a hassle.

We still do inside and I’d love to do exterior only, maybe next year. It does take a lot more time, but customers are usually very happy with a complete window washing.

I was slow at interior window cleaning. Lost $ on every job. Finally said to myself " screw this I’m a power washer not a window cleaner". This season all I did was house washes, roof cleans & a lot of wood decks. I’m very happy I gave it up. No more lost $.

Profits can/do drop when doing interior window cleaning. I would love to do exterior only, however, there is a huge difference from doing just exterior, to doing interior and exterior. The finished product is amazingly different. It’s like cleaning your car, but not cleaning the foggy haze off your interior windshield. It does take longer, most of the time, than the exterior, and it’s hard to charge more for interior than exterior. If you price right, you can still make your preferred hourly rate, or more. I always do interior first, just to get it out of the way, then concentrate on exterior. When giving an estimate, I always give a price for interior/exterior, and exterior only. I charge 60% of the interior/exterior price for exterior cleaning. So, if interior/exterior came to $1,000, the exterior only price would be $600, and can be double your preferred hourly rate, which helps make up for the interior slow down. It just makes sense for me to market interior cleaning, as much as I dislike it. But, I’m a window cleaner doing pressure washing on the side. Hoping by this time next year to be a pressure washer, and doing window cleaning on the side.

I guess I’m a bit confused here. Exterior only with WFP still requires going in the home to remove screens yes?

Are you thinking of dropping interior cleaning when you have made the transition or still offering full service window cleaning?

Not necessarily, some houses don’t have screens at all, or some people ask the customer to remove the screens if they want the exterior windows cleaned. If the customer doesn’t want to do that they would need to find a full service window washing company.

I will still offer full service window cleaning.

Had an exterior only job today, people didnt seem to mind remove screens themselves. Cool.

I offer both interior window cleaning and commercial window cleaning in Phoenix.

I try to NEVER leave money on the table. Its one of my commandments.

But what if you knock over the table and have to pay for it?

Id make sure that wouldn’t happen before I take that chance. So I would advise you to do the same. Haven’t knocked it over yet. But I have made it rock…
