PW shuts off when I throttle it up on start

Hey all

As stated in my first thread, I had the unfortunate luck of buying a Simpson 4200/4gpm machine before I knew better. Using it for practice this fall (only for friends and fam) before I get a big boy machine next year.

Anyway, I was doing some washing at a family member’s house and the unit started and ran smoothly, as usual (so far). I have maybe 5 hours on it?

Anyway, I had to take a break so I shut machine down. When I came back to it about 20 mins later it wouldn’t start. I was close to done and called it a day and said I’d mess with it later. Well, it was bugging me so when I got it home and unloaded, I hooked it all up and tried to get it going.

Problem: It starts, as normal. But when I start to throttle it up, it shuts off. Tried 3 times in a row.

Very frustrated, and I’m not a mechanic, but I wanted to know if there is anything you think I should check/know before I call Simpson in the morning (not looking forward to that).

Hoping it’s something simple right in front of my face, that’d be nice for a change. Thanks guys.

My 1st thought is its not bypassing. Check make sure the inlet washer/screen thingy didnt get sucked in. Make sure throttle is high enough and not in choke mode. Thats all I got besides carburetor needing attention.

Ok thanks, @Redjess – I’ll definitely check the screen, that could be something.

I hesitate to think it’s the carb, I just unboxed this hunk of crap about a week ago, fresh gas, etc etc. Who knows.

Thanks again

If you hold the trigger open do you get same results. Or just take the hose of and let water flow will motor shut off. Check the oil level also. I’m assuming it’s full of gas

@Firefighter4hire Holding the trigger open, yes. Still shut off. I will take the hose off and see what it does in the morning. Full on gas and oil. Thanks!

Check the choke make sure its working as it should. Take air filter off try and run it. Does your carb have a sediment bowl and carb filter

Turn of events this morning - I’m able to return the machine!

Once I get her sent back, I will begin the hunt for a proper, belt-driven unit.

Thanks for your suggestions, all.
