Pump leak from outlet cap/plug

You’re not saying that people are supposed to use NPT and BSPT fittings together, are you? That’s not the case at all, every pipe and fitting manufacturer on the planet warns against using those two together.

Thanks, I was hoping you’d let us know

In this instance, theres not much choice for our pumps.

What’s the pump model?

The heads are what is BSP an in this instance Females.

Correct. And that is a BSPT plug for that BSPT female

Cool. The washer that Steve linked you to and the plug that I linked you to are the correct parts for where that leak is. Do the pencil test, seriously. Nothing worse than waiting a week on parts only to find out it’s the wrong fix.

This link has a parts diagram for your pump.

I dont see the bsp designation of that plug, but also every 3/8 whip line is npt. So is the ez start.

Totally! Most things we use are NPT, that doesn’t change the fact that literally every single code book and pipe manufacturer warns that the two threads are not to be used together, especially under pressure.

I’ll happily buy the plug and run a digital caliper on the threads to show you it’s BSPT, if you’re that hung up on it. Seems silly though.

Its not so much the plug, but the fact that we are using npt on bspt in high pressure. The only sizes it the pipe thread shot callers recommends or is in agreement with is 3/4 and 1/2 interchangeably. And they say all others will leak, hence the Teflon tape or similar. Its just for the record. Im likely wrong in my assertion that interchanging cause a tighter fit.

If @Jake_Lambert wants to be the adapter king let him. Lol we went back and forth just last month about it.

Hahahaha!!! I can’t help it. Plumbing is one of the things I do really, really well. I made enough errors on here talking about stuff I’m not an expert on; when someone finally drops me a crumb I can’t type fast enough lol

Well it was fixed, now I’ve caught it leaking again especially when I use the turbo nozzle. Probably should have ordered a few crush washers.

Should Teflon tape or paste the fitting, I figured the crush washer was there so you didn’t have to. It’s not a steady drip. More so a spot where it didn’t seal and a pressurized stream shooting out

You sure it’s not cracked?

When I first put it on it was sealed. Then overtime I noticed a pin hole leak. I hope it’s not cracked should be under warranty though.
I’m gonna order some more crush washers then take it apart again.

Do you think running it with a slight leak is going to cause any damage?

Yes, if its cracked its trashed anyways, i would definitely call the manufacturer and try to get a replacement, document the hell out of it to.

I filed the washer back to flat and there was no leak. But there also wasn’t much back pressure on it. Might go out a turbo tip on and see how it handle with the back pressure from that
