Pros, cons and advice-V6 full size truck

That truck will be fine for pulling that trailer. You could pull that with a S 10 on a windy day

When you get a chance can you send me some pics of ur van set up. I’m looking to add a 3rd truck early this spring.

So far I I have an Isuzu npr that I love but maintenance on it is $$ and nobody wants to work on them and a E 350 flatbed But am looking at a service bed truck or a van set up.

I like the idea of a van set up though

That be a lil much for a S10 imo

@SurfaceTherapy, another forum to look into would be Cummins Forum. Theyve helped me out quite a bit.

I currently drive a 2008 Ram 4500 daily. It has 410k miles on it. Needs a little tlc, but I’m working on that. She has only left me on the side of the road once. Water pump came apart on me down in Oceanside, Ca.

@Walterjn original water pump?

That was in Oklahoma. I believe all the vehicles are 50 state compliant now though. There were three of those trucks that all had similar issues at different times. Of course, being oilfield trucks, they lived pretty tough lives in harsh environments but they were too new for those types of issues in my opinion.

I agree 100 percent, I personally will never own a diesel that is built after 2007, they’ve ruined them with all the emissions crap, its truly sad. All the truckers I know that own there rig get the def delete kit , cost is 3k but hell they save that on fuel economy and def fluid alone in a year. They just don’t go anywhere close to California.

Not with 20 mph winds behind you

The hell with all the emissions and def stuff. Everybody knows that chrome and chicken lights get you the best mileage. Humor. All humor. I swear i was super truckin in my past life

@Patriotspwashing I have a nps which is pretty much a npr with 4x4, I’m curious why your mechanic guys have an issue with maintenance on it?
What stuff do they complain about doing?

Nobody here works on them except dealership. So far not to bad, just when it does need work it takes weeks since there is only a few places around. So far it’s been great, I’d love 4x4

It was the original Water pump (as far as I know) that failed in Oceanside. That was a few years & about 100k miles ago. Had that one start to fail, replaced that one myself. Not a hard job, thankfully enough.

@Walterjn assuming it’s original that’s a lot of mileage for a water pump. I’m not surprised it went cactus on you. I like to do water pumps every 60,000 miles, same time I do timing belts, tensioners etc, if they happen to have one.

The one that replaced the Oceanside fail, went about 100k miles, before replacement. Gott a love Cummins!

I’m looking at a Toyota Tundra somewhere between 2007-2013.

I don’t know much about trucks though.

Should I only be thinking 5.7? Any reason to not consider a 4.6 / 4.7?

I had a 2006 with the 4.6 in it. That thing would pull about anything you could put behind it. Only problem was it couldn’t stop everything lol. I kinda regret selling it. It wasn’t the bigger body style like the ‘07+, but it’s size was great for getting on trails up in the woods, and didn’t feel like you were trying to park a bus when you went to the store. The 4 wheel drive worked great too.

But to answer your question, check the tow ratings and see if there’s a difference between the 2. If you’re gonna have a bed mount setup or skid, I’d probably opt for the 5.7 just for the extra torque. The 4.6 really doesn’t get any better gas mileage. Believe mine was about 12-15 mpg around town and 18 mpg hwy going downhill with a tail wind.
