Problems with soft wash 12 volt pump and discharge length

I have pulsating issues or on and off issues I think due to back pressure.- I purchased a j rod set for softwashing with #30 orifice I assume 3.0 gpm but this is the one people say to use . when i use a 12ft section to test and this j rod set up it happens when i switch to my #40 orfice for my downsteam it goes away for the most part. when i plug in my main 250 ft it happens with both j rods so i tried the 3-7gpm m5 twist and it still does it. when there is nothing on it it runs fine but only goes 8-10 feet lol. I don’t know if cutting 50ft off will help or getting bigger orfice tips .

Different components but similar system…last year we switched to 1/2" hose because someone said it would be better, and we had similar issues. Went back to 5/8" hose and all was well. Not sure if this applies or is possibly even the case in your situation. TBH, the whole thing didn’t make a ton of sense logically in our case, but I know what happened and how it was fixed…FWIW

make us a video

This happened with my 7gpm Delevan. I found out there is a veeerry small allen bolt on the head that adjusts pressure so I fiddled with that and found the sweet spot for 180’ of hose.

Also if you’re using a 5.5 with 250’ of hose don’t expect much at the end, maybe half that. Guys on here gave sage advice and recommended the 7gpm, and frankly it still only puts out about 4 or less.

Oh one more thing. If the pump isn’t fully primed and purged of air, it will still shoot out so probably the 8-10’ you’re seeing.

chopped off 50ft tonight and nothing changed. I’m aware of the allen but didn’t think or hear of anyone fiddling with it but one person on youtube. I have a good stream at the end but i never measured the GPM with 250 ft on it . its cut now so it would be coupled or used as an extension.

I have similar stats on 12v. With 250’ you will get less gpm fore sure, might not be a big deal for you…I cut mine down to 200’ and adjusted as @dcbrock said, no problems…pressure switch doesn’t cycle a bunch, I also have an accumulator too. I think it needs to be adjusted if everything else checks out fine. Video would be really good to diagnose though.

We have close to 300ft of 1/2in hose, all plumbing with 1/2in lines, remco 7gpm with no issues to date. We did tune the pump with an allen key to our nozzle tips before use.

Just tested my 7gpm Delavan with 180’ of hose, shoots about 30’ and runs somewhere around 4gpm when filling a carboy.

I get between 35-40 ’ on my 5.5 Northern with 250’ of 1/2" at ground level. Up on 32’ ladder it drops to about 25’, ie reason for gas roof pump if needed.

came home today and played with the allen key about a full turn to the right and the on/off went away. added the 50ft and no issues. getting 3gpm with 250ft didn’t test 200ft yet

There you go!

Do all 12v pumps have this? I never knew about it at all nor have I ever thought to look for one

All Delavan’s do
