Probably gonna have to walk

Might be a bit of a newb question I apologize in advance but… These black canvas canopy things are really nasty, but obviously I CANNOT hit them with HW mix, because theyll be destroyed. If I were to take these things down for the wash, I dont wanna put them back up all nasty like that on a clean house. Is there anything I can do for these canopys without damaging them? Maybe I can take them down, so I can do the HW but put them back after? But then obviously like I said, I’d feel some kind of way, putting those things back up after I cleaned. I know a few people here are going to probably recommend I walk, I just wanna be sure before I lose out on a good paying job… !

We spray bleach on them all the time. Do a spot check

Those are an opportunity! Watch Squid’s YouTube video, offer to clean them.

I actually just got off the phone with them. They’re going to have the grounds people take them down (this is a clubhouse for a golf course) before we get there. I set expectations and told the owner my worries, and she is going to handle it so that I can just wash the building without those on there, and then she said she can have them sent for cleaning today. Which I guess works out and now I’m not so stressed. Lol.

That was an easy task…

What would you have done to that canopy ? Im honestly wondering… I just dont wanna damage anything. I havent damaged any property yet and I really dont wanna start now lol.

And for the record I’m still a newb when it comes to this stuff. I wanna be a good contractor, dont wanna make newbie mistakes that cause me to damage anything and lose a customer. So I wanna play it safe that’s all

If you haven’t seen Squid’s video you’re missing out.

I honestly think even a 1% mix would damage them tho. I mean I see what the bleach does to my shirts. Cant imagine what it would do to a canopy like that.

99% of awnings are bleach proof. Probably a polyester blend. Natural fibers would break down in constant sunlight rather quickly. A good rule of thumb is if something holds up well to constant UV exposure, it’s probably SH safe.

Btw, you need to get yourself some performance polyester shirts. They don’t bleach out.

Thanks Alex

If it isn’t too late tell them you can do those too! They charge an arm and a leg for custom cleaning - you could get a decent price for them. Do a test spot underneath in a small corner.

Anyone got a link for squids video ? I’d check it out for sure, especially if I’m gonna learn something.

Is it on YouTube? Something I can search for or ?

Yep, on YouTube. Just search for Squid’s pressure washing.

And prepare to have your mind blown.

I cant believe someone’s still wearing cotton shirts.

As someone mentioned do a test spot in an inconspicuous area but I’ve sprayed bleach on black awnings and it cleans it up great

We wear them every day. Orange ones. Polyester stinks when you sweat and you shouldn’t be getting wet or getting bleach on yourself anyway.
