This is my first washer plumbed to a tank and I was curious as to if the bottom hole where the bypass enters back into the pump is better to have a cap or thermal release valve?
You won’t need a thermal valve anymore, the pump will be cooled with the bypass to the tank.

That glass filter has to mach restriction . Just use 1/2 mpt to 1" barb brass fitting and inline filter.
