Pressure washer gx390

I have a Honda GX 390 qaa2 on a pressure washer. One of my works let it tip over and now it won’t turn over. We removed it completely from the washer. We did everything suggested when it tips over and still won’t start. We took it all apart and it apprears that the starter coil rubs on the inside. Not sure what to do to fix it. Any help?

Take out the plug and pull the cord a few times

We’ve done that

Give it a good kick or two and call it a sonofa…that should do it.

Nope didn’t work

I was serious about checking your oil. My low oil cutoff switch is finicky on all three of my 390’s. Doesn’t start after I change the oil sometimes. And I wouldn’t be surprised in the least if the oil sloshed to one side and the switch did it’s thing.

Yea mine kept shutting off, turns out I wasn’t putting enough oil in it

And it’s a dash more oil than the manual says. At least for me.

Different problem for all you gx390 wizards. Doing a large job yesterday (10.3 hours on the machine in one day) and everything was working perfect. 5 minutes from being done, my PW shuts off. Im thinking I ran out of gas. I refilled the fuel tank (not sure if it was empty) and tried to restart the engine. The first time I turned the key, it turned over but sounded like it was straining. The second time I turned the key, it wouldn’t turn over. I finished the job with a broom and hose and started packing up. After about 15 minutes of rolling hoses and organizing the trailer, I turned the key and the engine started like normal. I immediately turned it back off and left. The next morning I checked everything over. Oil level was good, pump oil was good, nothing out of order. Machine started and ran like normal. Is there an overheat shutoff? Any ideas?

Disconnect the low oil sensor. If that solves the problem then look into replacing the sensor. Also, you can try a heavier oil in the hot summer months. If the oil is worn out or too light weight, and gets hot it thins out and can trigger the shutoff sensor. Another thing to look at is the fuel filter. How long since you replaced it? Run some gas treatment through the motor every few tanks to keep everything clean. AS far as the restart goes, was there pressure in the pump when you tried to re-start it?

Thanks for the reply. I’ll check the low oil sensor if the problem persists. Guessing the pump still had pressure when I tried the restart. Not sure. I had disconnected the gun and rolled the hose when it finally started, so no pressure then. Would the pump under pressure prevent it from turning over? The low oil sensor would only stop it from starting, not stop it from turning over, correct?

I know on my machines that if they are under pressure they are impossible to crank over (hand pull), probably electric is the same way.

Since It gets temperature of the sun hot here, I run 10w40 in the summer and Lucas oil stabilizer to prevent the engine oil from thinning out and causing a low oil shutdown. I also fill the oil to the threads on the filler neck for the same reason.

Thanks again. It may have run out of gas, it must have been getting close. Cant see in the tank with the screen in place so I couldn’t tell. I try not to let it run out but was almost done (and almost dark). For future, I’ll squeeze the trigger to relieve the pressure before restarting. Normally not an issue on house washes. If it does it again, I may rethink the oil viscosity. Appreciate the help and oil advice!

The dang low oil cut off is the bain of the regular oil changer.

All my is disconnected. Park on a hill and your machine won’t start

I’m disconnecting mine ASAP then. I know the oil gets changed/checked regularly. Honda can’t tell me what to do.

How often is everyone doing oil changes? Engine and pump??

Engine. 50 hours
Pump 20 hour break in then never or 4000 hours when rebuilt

I was going to say every two weeks, but 50 hours would mean weekly for me. Are you using synthetic and changing filters every 50 hours?

For pumps my preference is every 6 months or so.

Every 50 hours on the motor.

Every other month on the pump between March and October

Every pump oil change interval also gets a new plug and clean out on the air filter. I say clean out because I use a K&N filter that gets washed and re-oiled.

I’m just gangsta like that… :sunglasses:
