Pressure washer flow "sputter"

If the 5.5 is robbing water at the T then I gotta go to 2 separate feed lines ,one either side of tote like @Innocentbystander said in the beginning, only reason I didn’t was because I already bought all the parts before asking ya’ll. Dangitt …

I would definitely get rid of the T and try to use a Y. It could definitely be starving for water but from the symptoms it sounds like a check valve issue or seals or possibly just debris in the manifold which can cause pump cavitation. You probably won’t be able to see any cavitation without pulling all of the seals and then you’d need a new set to go back in their place. With such low hours I’m betting against it being bad seals and would put my money on check valves.

Dang I just remembered you said you ran it dry for a hot minute. In that case it could absolutely be seals/cavitation. Only one way to find out.

Can you supply water to it without the tee

Yes, I’m gonna hook it up tomorrow to a spigot and see how she does. That will tell me if I have to crack the pump and go after something more serious like @DisplacedTexan said. Got new belts in hand ,just ran outta Time today ,had to mix 500 gallons of soap and 200 gallons of acid up. I also have a new 5.5 Legacy pump sitting on the shelf if it’s catastrophic. I actually bought it for the new PP. LOL,go figure right @Firefighter4hire ?

I would still replumb it two separate feed lines are a much better idea

So I’ve heard @Firefighter4hire .:joy:
In my defense I had to pee @0200 then ate leftovers and the interweb works best in the middle of nowhere Arkansas at those times ,so I got on PT while the wife was sleeping, next thing I knew I woke up with a fork on my left and my credit card on my belly. And a thanks alot for your $1800 Pressure Tek order email.so long story short. I didn’t need help from ya’ll to plumb my first buffer tank @ 0200 on a Tuesday morning … :joy::joy:
I made a mistake. Lol

So what did you buy?

I must be missing something, wouldn’t you want to just run the 4 by itself instead of pressure feeding it???

Yes, but i m gonna hook a 5/8 garden hose to it and force feed it and see if it resolves the problem, if it does ,then I got a plumbing problem right? Then I’ll throw that same hose in the top of the tank to see if it runs just as well. Just testing

Sure I’m just assuming you haven’t tried it by itself lol

Fittings, lots of psi hose,Hudson valves, Meg nozzles, roll over nozzle, longer lance’s, 2315 guns, air filters, hr/ rpm meters, bla, bla. Nothing fun, setting up for winter @Firefighter4hire

Are both of your feed lines the same length. Both units are same elevation?

I ran the 4gpm by itself without the 5.5 running on the buffer tank ,no change.

No, 5.5 is a couple feet shorter, same elevation on the trailer floor

Okay, so how many days is it going to take you to hook a garden hose up to it??? hahahaha

Both of them should be same length but if you ran it alone with no change. And the tank full of water with head pressure. A garden hose really should not make that much difference. Especially if you disconnected the feed line and have good flow at the intake. I’m assuming you have tried different guns and tips. You might be sucking air in

I once had a similar issue, one of the upper check valves on triplex was sticking due to hard water contamination build up. Cleaned the check valve by soaking it in CLR and then wd40 reinstalled check valve problem went away. Note shudder on mine only occured when pulling the trigger it would last a second or two and Peter out. Mine may have been a unique/freak issue.

I owe you one. It was the belts slipping ever so slightly, over stretched. Hooked it up to force feed, ran great, went back to same hose off spigot directly into top of full tote without the other machine running, started the same cavitation, sputter problem, put new belts on. Runs like a champ. Thanks @dperez,you da man…

I have my days haha. Don’t forget to readjust your belts once they break in. I usually check them every start up and notice I don’t like them anymore after about 20hrs.

Are you going to get around to ordering a sheave gauge so you can check them for wear?
