Lowes, Home depot, 2x stock and 5/4 stock gone, forget railing and spindles. All the 2x4 I could find were cull lumber. They had a truck coming in with PT lumber on it and the guy told me most of that is sold already. Maybe it is regional, and other places aren’t short. Some hillbillies were blaming the rona, said it disrupted the supply chains. I laughed and asked them who told them the word supply chain, they grinned a semi toothless grin.
Not gonna lie, PW gig isn’t so hot, but handyman work I can turn down in spades, really don’t want to do it, but an honest dollar is an honest dollar.
My uncle is a home builder and runs his own construction company. His lumber supplier told him he would have no wood by November. All of Texas would be out. Take that for what it’s worth.
I work FT in the fencing and pressure treated lumber (specifically 1x6x6 pickets) are gold from what we are being told. (FWIW, so is aluminum and PVC) Many lumber plants shut down under the assumption the economy would crash/covid. But with everyone sitting home unable to spend their vacation money, they’re working on their houses instead. Commercial is dead atm but residential is booked out 8 weeks for a ton of guys. I’m another FNG around here and don’t know squat about PW but thats what we’re being told
You can buy them pre made and they will ship and drop on your property, the amish do it in my area cheaper than you can do it yourself. They log and mill their own lumber, and have families of 10 that work for free.
