Power washer has 50:1 on downstream injector ratio

Recently bought a new gasoline pressure washer and the manual says the unit has a 50 to 1 ratio on the soap injector. That seems crazy high to me as far as mixing it with bleach or pool shock. Seems that it would be watered down way too much. Am I not figuring this out correctly and is there anything I could do to increase detergent/SH? Thank you for your time for reading or replying.

Search the key words “bucket test”, “downstream injector” & “xjet”. Your brain will explode with knowledge.

Each term will have multiple threads of information that will detail all that you need to know about them and, you’ll have the answers you seek.

If it’s really 50:1, it won’t do you any good.

What kind of washer is it?

It is a Ryobi gasoline power washer. 2900 PSI/2.5 GPH. 26cc OHV engine. It has a built on downstream injector. Manual says 50: 1 ratio while using the soap nozzle tip. Thanks for looking.

I’m sorry everyone, I misread the manual. It is a 20:1 ratio for the soap. I’m thinking I could use some 12% pool shock and stick the soap feed hose directly into the SH for a usable mix?

If the soap feed is before the pump (which I believe it is on a lot of these type of machines) then you don’t want to run SH through it. No bueno for SH to go through a pump. Best bet is to plug it up and get a down stream injector or x-jet for your machine.

Looks like the downstream is after the pump. Should be safe to run sh through the system. Correct me if I’m wrong though.
Also, would it be okay to run Dawn through the soap hose straight? I know you don’t want to run Dawn soap through the pump.

Not sure what your photo shows since it isn’t working… this is what I’m seeing in the manual, they say not safe to run bleach through the system. It’s only a $300 machine though and if you only need it to last for a job or two around the house go for it. Also don’t use dawn, if you’re going to be cheap use gain laundry detergent, at least it’ll work with the bleach.

Sorry about the photo, it is stuck on uploading still. That is the unit I have. I’m still not understanding how it could cause harm to the unit if the sh/detergent is introduced after the pump and everything. It seems like it’s just going to make contact with the delivery hose and wand. Thank you very much for the help and I am not arguing by any means. I’m just trying to understand all this a little more because it’s not making too much sense.

I’m only going off what the manual shows, and I can’t find a good stock image of that side of the machine. If you can upload a photo of the pump, specifically the unloader, outlet hose, and soap feed location in one shot maybe it will become more clear.

Thank you again for all your time.

Yea, that looks like it goes straight out to the pressure line… they are probably just worried about reverse flow getting back to the pump since I’m sure it doesn’t have a check valve inline. Once you’re done applying your chems (before turning off the machine) throw the soap pick up tube into a 5 gallon bucket of water and run it through. Should help flush out any chems that are lingering.
