Was hand digging a post hole for the new mailbox. Right by the road the soil is super rocky. I thought to myself that the turbo may dig quicker and boy was I right!
3 foot hole in about a minute on the trigger. Yes I know I’m wearing sandals. Yes I know this is hard on turbo nozzles. It’s Saturday and my honeydo list is long and summer is not.
My local Hotsy dealer sells a “turbo” just for this. It looks much different than the standard one and they say it works like a charm. In the oilfield we just used hydrovaccuum trucks.
This pretty much how oil and gas wells are drilled. We just use a bit that has 3-6 jets and are rotating and pumping 750 gpm on surface holes. We were digging 150’/ hr when i got here last tuesday at 7000’ at 650 gpm/ 3500psi.
I did this for some holes early this year too. Wand and shop vac lol. It was when I tweaked my back and wasn’t feeling digging anything.
When I was working refineries hydrovac was the only option for digging holes. The refinery sure was so old no one trusted the drawings. One footing for a foot bridge took 19 test spots. Was ridiculous.
We have a hydro excavator on the vector truck at the road department. Its basicly a 12-15 gpm 6k psi turbo nozzle on a 1/2 line. It’s great for finding pipes before bringing in back hoes. Digs a 8 ft hole in about 4 min.
So after realizing how awesome digging a hole with a turbo nozzle is I decided to pair it with a new sludge pump from pressure tek. Now I can dig mess free holes in no time without breaking my back or renting a gas powered auger.
