Penetrating Oil Based Stain

Here’s one in process today. You can see in the photo, I don’t have to clean down to bare wood to get great results. I know I’ve posted it before but clean based on where you’re trying to end up. Staining in DFW was tough today with the high winds, I had two people taking care of the homeowners and neighbors property. It worked.

What stain are you using?

So I have a customer who wants me to stain a fence I just built for them it’s only 35’ both sides. What stain do you recommend? It’sYellow pine I believe. I never wanted to get into staining but might as well try it once. Would a pump sprayer suffice?

That’s Wood Defender’s transparent Leatherwood. It would look great on that new fence. Yes, you can apply with a pump up no back brushing. You can put in too little but you can’t put on too much.

And what do you think of readyseal brand of stains?

How many coats of stain do put on fences,do you ever do the flood coat, just 1 coat?

Ready Seal is great. About the only thing I 'll use

Ready Seal and Wood Defender go on the same. Basically makes you look like a genius (prep is still the key). Ready Seal has one formulation good for fences and decks (that’s because it films) WD has two formulations, one for fences and decks and one for fences. The fence stain does not film, it can take weeks to fully absorb into the wood. It doesn’t matter, you’re not walking on it and tracking it into the house. Pre tax and delivery WD fence stain is anywhere from 98.00 to 110.00 per 5 gal bucket. Do the math, 165.00 pre-tax 110.00 pre-tax. I can spend that. I will tell you that WD lasts longer than RS in my experience and WD has a semi-trans line that looks much better on old fence, just has more pigment.

Yep, I do but mostly pergola’s and finer work, anything else is blow and go.

LOL, That’s because you get a smoking deal on it. Anywhere outside of TX we all pay the same or more for WD than RS. Can get RS from HD, Lowes or Amazon and even the Ace Hardware here carries. WD you can’t get anywhere here unless you order from Walmart or amazon for $160.

Thanks for all the info guys, much appreciated

Here’s what the National Rep Mgr said:

Jamieson Used to have a location in Greenville Area. The closed that branch several years ago. Jamieson in Stockbridge, GA (Atlanta) is servicing that area. Craig Anderson is the contact there. They move a lot of stain out of that location and run trucks to Greenville.

I get all my stain through Jamieson, they have been bought out by Master Halco so anyone with those fence and deck lumber distributors has access to better pricing.

@MDA1775 How long should he wait before staining that new fence?

Warm weather, cedar 3-4 weeks PT wood 6-8 weeks, or use a moisture meter and spray when under 13%.
