Paver design

Got a request for a quote on a wash and seal and ran into something I’ve never seen before. The patios in pretty rough shape and has been neglected but what concerns me is the different textures on the stones.

Defanitly no sealer on it. Some spots have a smooth texture while others are course. It doesnt look uniform at all so my guess is it’s not supposed to look that way. Hopefully you can see it in the pictures. Any ideas or suggestions?

Side note I thought it was stamped concrete and I still think it is but I was told otherwise.

If that’s not stamped I would really like to meet the guy who put that compass in

That’s what I said… lol word for word

Gotta be stamped…Tool marks leading up to the (pretty cool) compass design and expansion joints at consistent intervals…no need for expansion joints with pavers.

Maybe someone sold them stamped concrete at a paver price…probably wouldn’t be the first time

I would put 12.5 on and rinse it off

I just couldn’t get past the texture differences on the same stones without it being stamped. I was also told it would be smooth after it was sealed. I dont see how with such a drastic texture diffrence.

It will not be smooth it will be clean then put a high quality sealer on will look nice but not smooth

That was my take as well. If he expects it to be smooth I’m not going to bother with it. Hes not going to get the results he wants.

You could use a high gloss sealer and it would look smooth but it will never be smooth

The customer may be thinking of an acrylic sealer and not impregnating. With an acrylic sealer, it would be a topical sealer that would result in a smooth finish (albeit it may have different heights due to the texture of the substrate but smooth to the touch none the less). I just stripped a patio that had a high gloss topical sealer and it was exactly as what is being described - gloss , smooth finish.
