I am just checking to see if anyone has experience or suggestions on the best method to tackle this situation. A contractor called me and said they spilled some paint on customers driveway. They then used citristrip stripper to remove the paint but it left behind white residue. The driveway is also sealed with a solvent sealer. He also said that he tried pressure washing it a few times with just water and it made no difference. Any recommendations on a product to remove the residue?
Don’t inherit that headache
You could probably pay someone like $20 to kick you in the head and it would be less of a headache than that and probably way less expensive, too.
I’ll do it for $15
Damn new guys always trying to undercut the competition.
The kicking or the stain removal?
Both.
Now we’re talking deals!!!
I have already told him there are no guarantees that I can remove the stain and set the expectations low.
Customer:
Okay, go for it. But, be warned, the “white residue” you’re seeing there is from the cream coat being stripped off of the surface of the concrete by the stripper and Joe Schmoe blasting it with high pressure from half an inch away. As soon as you touch it the problem now becomes yours and so does the liability. Have fun
Head kicking is free. Stain removal $15. Couple pounds of tannerite and you’ll never know the stain was there! Or the concrete for that matter
OK i appreciate the input and may end up declining the job. I have not yet seen it in person. That is the picture he sent me. I am going to look at it tomorrow to get a better idea. If I do any work there will be a contract for sure. I am thinking the white residue may be where it ate through the existing sealer.
I’m really curious. How you are going to fix it? I’d like to hear your method and process
Please walk away……
Just to give an update on this when I saw the concrete in person I could tell that the stripper had damaged the sealer and the white residue was basically the stripper that was in the sealer after it had hardened back up. So I made it clear that I guaranteed nothing. I stripped the sealer in that area and resealed the whole driveway. It turned out great and was a nice pay day. The afer pic is after stripping and one coat of sealer just on the area that was stripped. I then sealed the whole driveway.
What’s it look like now that it’s dry?
It looks pretty much the same as the picture dry. The homeowner was very happy with the results. He actually called me today and scheduled another concrete clean and seal for his back patio area because he was so happy with it.
Nicely done. What did you use to strip the sealer? Did you just strip that area or the entire drive? What sealer did you use?
I used xylene to strip it and I just stripped the area that needed it. I used a sealer made by Dayton Superior. I get it from a local concrete supply store.
