Paint prep steel

Hey guys I have a local saw mill wanting the upper half of the chip hopper pressure washed so they can paint it. It’s up starting at 30ft up to 60ft. I’m unsure if I’m gonna have enough pressure to clean it properly?

I’m currently running real time 5.3gpm at 2800psi at the wand after 100ft 3/8 hose I believe I’m going to be in the 2500psi range with another 50-100ft of hose and pumping up hill to my lift at 30-60ft.high

I know I can clean it with chemical but paint prep and cleaning can be a different story. Any advise is much appreciated.

Please what numbers do you know I need

What contaminates are you removing?

What are their expectations?

How big is the structure/how long will it take you to clean?

And how long would it take to clean if you had the (assumed) right machine for the job?

The Forman expects just have any loose paint off and cleaned up enough to slap paint over.

Note- There’s surface rust in areas and the bottom half has already been painted.

I estimate there’s 7,500-8,500.ft. Of surface area and with my setup will take a minimum of 25-30hrs

My ideal setup would be Hot8gpm at 3200psi at the wand I’d guess I would just get to work and would take estimated 20-25hrs with that setup

Sounds like some good old fashioned pressure washing.

Pretty much. I personally feel it needs soda blasted/or higher pressure 4000-4800psi but I’m pretty much the only guy in the area. I don’t want to loose a work just cause I’d do it differently if I could.

Ok there’s some pic it’s the hole upper half total height is 60ft. Est. 55ft long and 15-20ft wide at widest point.

Please help with your opinions on pricing.

Did you factor in what materials (lifts, safety equip, ect…) it will take to complete that job?

I would see what is needed just to safely get you positioned to do the job first before jumping in.

Industrial jobs like this can sometimes be WAY more then meets the eye.

Don’t hesitate to walk away if your questioning it in the first place.

There providing a 60’ lift and I’m purchasing a safety equipment I.e hard hat, fall protection and a
Paid ground guy. I’m expecting it to take 30hrs run time and feel safe
To bid at $4,800.00 any thoughts?

$4,800 is three days on the ground washing vinyl.

I say add $2,000.00 and it may still feel low.
