Oxidation questions

Can you guys give any advice on how to handle this oxidation I have searched the forum and found a few things and seen where some would just walk away… I already informed the customer on what it was and that if not treated with low pressure it will cause streaks… we haven’t took the job yet so there is no rush as of now. We may still walk away

Run away

Do they really think a house washing is going to fix that?

Give them the number of a good house painter.

Actually they weren’t trying to fix it they just thought it was faded.

Probably has organic pigments and a mold inhibitor. The mold inhibitors in newer paints essentially kills the organic pigments in them, causing premature fading.

It’s not fading it comes off if you scrub it

Faded, oxidized, same difference. Faded paint is oxidized paint. I’ve yet to come across a house in 20 years that the faded paint wasn’t oxidized or chalked. Dead organic pigments in paint turns it to a pinkish/purplish color, and fades/oxidizes/chalks it faster. There’s a real good chance that if you hit that section under the front porch with sh, it will turn pink. Blues, reds, browns, and greens, especially if Sherwin Williams paints, can have organic pigments in them.

That’s called a “painters clean” job over here.

It’s done before the painters come in and takes a lot of scrubbing (sometimes sanding back) - then pressure washing.

It’s not something regular pressure washers do, as it’s more specialised and time consuming.

If you don’t know what you’re doing, it will take forever.

I’ve done two in the past, but now I pass it to someone who just does painter cleans because it takes a couple people and a lot of close inspection to get it to a paintable standard.

Clean and paint is the solution here.

I love this post. My friend called me about her house needing pressure washed. I went and looked at it earlier today. It’s oxidized pretty bad, but in a funny kind of way. It’s a stucco home that has gray as the accent color. The horizontal parts that were painted gray are almost completely pink. The vertical parts that are painted gray is somewhat pink, but looks dirty from a distance, but it’s really the gray that’s showing through. I should’ve taken a pic of it, but I forgot.

Sounds like it needs painting?

Simply house washing doesn’t really “fix” anything. It just makes it cleaner.

My friend’s house isn’t even close compared this one. This one caught my eye, and I had to double back to get a picture of it. The whole side of it turned pink!!
