One of the nicest things a potential client has ever said to me

I had to bing it. I was taught long ago in school it was Piggly wiggly. Bing says a cat named Goldman invented it but he did own the humpty Dumpty and Piggly Wiggly stores.

I should have indicated that comment wasn’t meant to be generalization. Pertaining to the situation above it held relevance. I agree with your breakdown, especially the first one. Nothing wrong with finding a good deal, I love sales. But I won’t sell myself short, especially to an arrogant money hoarder. “You get what you pay for”. That is something I’ve contemplated putting on my website, but can’t even manage to find time to sort the countless before and after photos that I have and put them on there.

“Industry experts say…”

Some things it’s just better to pay someone else to do…all these people hoarding money, time is the one true finite resource…

But 8 bucks is still cheaper than 60 bucks

i disagree, these guys don’t stiff each other or their own clients. they just stiff the ones they can, because they can.

I’ve said you get you pay for to a few people and I usually lose the sale. I guess it depends on your area, but people in Columbia SC dont like to hear negative things (though that is usually most people).

I’m pretty blunt, it is who I am. I retired from a job that used to teach us mental and verbal tricks to use on people. When you get into an area like this, sometimes you can use humor to ease their minds. Humor is a bit of a disarming technique. Maybe change it from you get what you pay for to an analogy of a bad job you saw that someone asked you to fix, but make it humorous, maybe one of the homeowner wand mark art impressionistic pieces or a pollock.

If you’re down to saying “you get what you pay for”, then 99% likely you already lost the sale…that’s not particularly relevant statistics, lol

Completely agree. When folks come back shocked how expensive we are, or say something along the lines of, “I can’t believe that, I am using to paying [insert 25%-50% of what I charge]”, I already know we aren’t getting that sale. I don’t take it offensively though, it just means that we are priced appropriately. We are booked out and people are saying we are too expensive… that’s the sweet spot.

If I get those and they ask if there is something we can do to lower the price I just tell them something like, “I understand, but we are committed to paying all of our employees a living wage + benefits and we are priced accordingly. If we can help you in the future please don’t hesitate to reach back out.” I feel that is sufficient.
