Agreed.

But I do have to say that the Walmart special on sale for $99 may indeed be unsafe, even when brand new!! Those 12yr olds in Chen jing just don’t quite have the skills necessary to make a decent weld. But that’s an issue with improper welding techniques, lack of fusion, crazy undercut, and porosity.

Like bystander said, a proper weld is stronger than the base metal, simply because it’s thicker than the base. Now if it was out in the elements, bare, for 10+ years, the base would rust away long before the weld itself, because it’s thinner. A weld with lots of undercut can fail because the base metal where the weld contacts it is actually thinner, because metal was taken away from an improper weld.

Apologies to OP For the derailment. :exploding_head:

Wilbur Webster Martin was a Merita bread deliveryman man from 1946, first job out of WW 2, until 1982. He opened a small engine repair shop and retired to Holden Beach, NC. Passed away in 1994. He taught me metal and motors. Other Grandpa taught me carpentry and enough about farming to make me never want to crop or sucker tobacco another day in my life.

Yes, That.

I brought a soda in from the garage last week, only to find a fresh cold one sitting on the counter. No idea how it got there.
