Oil Change

Anyone know if autozone or O’Reilly’s carries the correct oil filter for the GX690? I found a place somewhat local that says they do but they don’t open again until Tuesday. Here’s a little trick for those who have their unit mounted to the deck floor like I do. It makes draining the oil a breeze.

I bought some from PT that says they fit the 690. They do not. I’m glad I read this post, really need to change mine. Gonna order on amazon I guess.

I haven’t taken my filter off yet so I can’t see the part number but Google says it is 15400-PLM-A02. Is that what you got from PT?

I’m sure you can cross the stock filter. I run a fram on my predator

I’m not sure, I’ll check when I get home.

Yeah I just worry about the bypass pressure rating being completely different. I drove 30 minutes to buy genuine Honda oil and I’m a freak about running the best stuff I can buy.

Do not use any filter but a honda. Fram and others may screw on but the back pressure is not the same and you will have no warranty coverage. Spend the extra 72 cents or whatever and put the correct one on

I intend to. If I can’t find it locally I’ll order some. Do you happen to know if that part # is correct? The local small engine shop says there are 3 part numbers listed for the GX690

I have this bookmarked. I got at least 30 filters sitting in the cabinet

You da man

Got the filter off and there is no obvious part number only a four digit code :7S06

Honda only makes 2 filters that I am aware off. The A01 and A02. A0l is supposed to be superior. They fit anything from the GX690 to the Accord sitting in your driveway(maybe not yours, but you know what I mean)

Try your local mower dealers. I couldn’t find one either but finally stopped by my local Xmark mower dealer and he had them in stock. Probably a little more expensive than amazon, but I like supporting local guys and consider it a cost of a little networking. And I figure its not a bad idea to have another contact for service either if I ever have trouble with my Honda engine.

IBS is correct on all of that. The A01 is a beefier filter but the A02 is now the standard for Honda dealerships. A01 is still available but I think it’s just old stock. I buy them by the lot as I have a ‘98 Civic as well as the GX690.

This is where I bought my last dozen at $7 apiece:

BTW this is my first post, kind of random I know.

My local pressure washing dealer sells the A02 for $15. That’s worse than the Honda stealership.

Like your drain hole.

The A01 is made by Filtech and the A02 is made by Honeywell (Fram).

Northern Tool stocks them. You may have to ask for it at the parts counter, they don’t set them out here. Guess they walk off.

Oh my lol
