Anyone seen stains like this before? They told me they cleaned the house with wet & forget and just this area looked like this after. I’m assuming that stuff is bleach based and since this area doesn’t get rain, it’s what did the staining. Just seems odd and hard to believe a store bought product would do this. I wonder if rewashing would get it, or will I need acid? I plan on stopping by and doing a test spot, just curious if anyone has seen something like this before.
Try some one restore inconspicuous spot and see what happens.
Some type of acid should take care of it. I use OneRestore and it works great for me, I know there are cheaper options……I just pass on the cost to the customer so….
Any idea on what it is? Doesn’t look like normal fallout and they said it showed up after cleaning their house with wet & forget. I’m afraid that it could be more of a SH burn from letting it dry on there. I guess I’ll find out this afternoon and update. They are around for me to stop by and test.
Wet-n-Regret doesn’t have SH.
You’re right, I was thinking of 30 second or E-Z house wash, one or both of those does.
Looks similar to the “staining” we get around our part of the state where we have a large amount of red clay used in construction sites. If this particular house you’re talking about is near a newly built neighborhood or road widening project that used some red clay that may be your culprit. The dust that’s constantly in the air may have settled behind the siding and began to flush out with the attempted house wash.
Nope, older house in an older neighborhood. Plus, no red clay around here, good old dirt. I was supposed to go there yesterday but we had a tsunami hit right in the middle of another job I was doing. I’ll head there this afternoon and test and report back.
Aluminum brightener 50/50 and it disappeared. Half that bottom panel was also hit with 5% SH which did nothing, but wanted a comparison
Nice, glad you found something that worked.
I’m washing the whole house next week. I’ll do the bad areas with a pump up, then downstream the acid maybe 10:1 in the rest of the house to brighten it up. Not much algae on it if any
Good timing lol I was just scouring the forum looking for a good Aluminum brightener. What one did you use?
I pay too much, but I’m lazy and want it shipped to my house. There is a lot cheaper stuff, but this stuff works awesome and I really don’t use it much, so a couple gallons last me all season. I typically just use it on rust marks on siding and oxidation runoff by windows.
Is this similar to BARC or EFFLO?
I don’t know, it’s just hydrofluoric acid
That’s the stuff Racer puts in his morning coffee at 2 am every day.
Yea in my search I found a comment from Racer about how it stings his face a little sometimes lol
Thank you!
Just so you know that is flash rust or just plain ole rust on the siding.
