Newbie question about SH

I need to buy sh from a pool store.
Should I buy the liquid chlorine or the liquid shock?
Thanks

It’s usually the same thing.

You’re looking for something that says on the label:

Sodium hypochlorite…….x%

And the “x” should be between 10 - 12.5%

Make sure you get de-granulated isometric shock. I’ve used it for years and it’s been great. Make sure to get the two-part solution.

Where are you located, do you have Menards around you? They are the best price for 12.5% pool shock. $4.99/gal and run 11% off all summer.

Be sure to check the date code in the bottle, I got a really old batch a while back and it barely did anything in a housewash.

I just emailed Pool Essentials and received an answer back on 9-9-24. I find their response difficult to believe. Last fall I had 3 gals of Pool Essentials 10% and by this spring I could tell it was degraded. The color was almost clear. The smell was weak. It did not freeze and was in the original bottles unopened until spring. FWIW:

It’s my understanding bleach will ‘stabilize’ at 6% which is why you find that level in store Chlorox. Run that stuff through a 10:1 or less injector and you might as well use plain water.

0.6% is my normal house wash… You must be impatient

I absolutely am. If that stuff doesn’t start turning brown in a couple minutes I’m hitting it again. Well maybe a few minutes.

My understanding is that it will stabilize to 3-4% long-term over the course of 2-3 months, and like I said:

Guaranteed minimum 10% over 1 yr? I’m having difficulty with that.

Same. Works great and saves ~40% on housewashes.
