New truck build question

About to do a truck build, has anyone tried to attach reels to the tail gate? With the gate up, you have roughly the same footprint, with other gate down, you have more room. Thoughts?

Most people mount them on a skid over the side or build shelves for them.

Mine are mounted on a service bed and would look similar on a skid in a truck bed.
