I’ve come to the experts for some advice. I’m just starting out soft washing and am very green. I’m quoting an aluminum siding cleaning job. The siding is original paint, 30 years old and has a good amount of oxidation.
I’m wondering what is the best outcome I could offer them and what products to use on the surface?
Along with the oxidation is dirt and spider webs, I didn’t notice mold but it may be present higher up than my eyes can see.
I’d be very careful or you might be repainting the siding. I only clean aluminum with the terms it’s being prepped for paint, that’s in my terms and conditions……I have washed aluminum that was in great shape. Majority is not so hence the terms and conditions……I use a lighter mix and don’t get too close to the siding with pressure, especially if oxidation is bad. Much success.
Let me put it this way… I’m only a year into the business (plus an additional 6ish months prior to that of just reading and research) and I have my first aluminum siding job next week… the only reason I took it was because the owner said he’s going to be repainting so this is just prepping for that, but I’m still hella nervous something will go wrong.
The entire point of softwash is to not agitate the surface… as in “do not disturb”.
Standard process for us on aluminum is half the mix ratio, do it 2x if necessary, rinse very gently, and keep it misted (mostly bc it’s all oxidized at this point). And whatever you do… don’t touch it!
