Good afternoon, I am working on setting up a new gear drive 5.6 comet pump on a GX390.
The pressure washer is connected to a 100 gallon buffer tank on this skid.
I haven’t been able to get the pump to prime… I ensured the buffer tank was half full and bled the air out of the suction hose. Also tried hooking up directly to my house water hose.
Any tips?
I ended up pulling this pump off and putting the 4 gpm Cat pump I have on and it primed no problem.
I purchased a new unloader from a local company. Any chance this is an unloader issue?
Thanks in advance!
do you have the intake/out reversed somehow on the pump there should be arrows or “in/out” marked on there Edit: there would be an “out” marked on the unloader not pump the pump would be self explanatory because the whip goes to 3/8" and intake is probably 1/2"
When you say “pump to prime” do you just mean getting water flowing through it? Brand new pump? Starting from square one… you put the appropriate oils in the gear box and pump and swapped out the shipping caps for the vented ones? Since it’s not shown in the pictures, what unloader and where was it hooked up? Did you adjust the unloader for the new pump? Do you have a photos of how everything was set up prior to swapping out the pumps?
Fairly certain I paid attention to the flow direction arrows but will double check for sure.
Yes sir, starting from square 1 with a new pump. I did as you said, filled with appropriate oils, removed shipping caps, etc.
I don’t have any other pics at the moment (I suppose complete pics would have been helpful ).
Currently at the hospital, my wife had baby #3 yesterday!
Planning to work on the pressure washer this weekend. Will post some more pics when I do.
Do you have pics of everything hooked up?
In the photo you posted, you have a king nipple on the inlet of the pump so based on that I would guess you had it plumbed correctly
Congrats!
Once you get everything hooked back up post a photo. Zero out the unloader and reset it, did you get new tips to match the new pump or where you using old ones to set it?
Thank you! Yes, I got new tips to match the larger pump but I didn’t make it that far since I didn’t get any water flow. Will report back soon.
Take a garden hose and force feed the inlet on the pump. It should pull water after that.
i bet you have air intruding.
Read the OP he tried that
