Anyone ever tried these? Supposedly you drop the dissolvable pods in the gutter before the downspout to neutralize the bleach runoff before roof cleaning. I was thinking about giving them a try, just wanted to see if anyone has any experience with these.
Got a sample pack on the shelf, haven’t given them a test drive yet, but pretty sure we’ll be using them. They also sell the neutralizer in a bucket which will significantly reduce my cost for the occasional barrel of deactivator.
I usually use sodium thiosulfate, but this might be more cost efficient. Are they very expensive? I have never seen them
Pretty sure that’s what this is…
It may be the same thing, I think you can get ten pods for $50.
Where do you get? Never heard of them.
I ordered 10 to give them a try
Thanks
Powerwash Store or direct from neutrapods.com
Any updates on using these? I’m doing a lot of roof washes and wondering what y’alls success has been.
Do you put them right in the downspouts at the top? Or what have you found is the best way to use them?
Got my first order of them in this week. Have a roof to do this week that the gutters are piped to pop ups in the lawn I’m going to try them on. Ask me in a few weeks, lol.
Is sodium thiosulfate safe for plants? I ask because i thought anything “sodium” is bad for plants. It may neutralize hypochrorite but it seems you still have sodium left over.
We’ve used them a few times. I haven’t made them a standard procedure, but if we see potential for rain, or someone is very worried about their plants, then we’ve been leaving them. Without doing one of our houses to really see if they keep stuff from dying when it should, it’s tough to make a positive “they work” statement. It’s more of a “we didn’t hear that something went wrong” sort of thing.
I bought a 10 lb bag of sodium thiosulphate from amazon for $36. Amazon also has dissolving bags if you want to make your own.
That should do the trick. The difference that I found with Neutrapods is that they include a small percentage of surfactant in their mix to help slow runoff. That’s probably great when used in most applications. We also use neutralizer on windows to help avoid streaking (and they market these as you can pop open the pods and make liquid neutralizer as well), and having surfactant in the mix in that case just makes things so much worse…
Never used them but heard good things about them.
@JAtkinson How did you use them? Do you place them in the gutter near the downspout or at the exit of the downspout? I usually use a trash bag on the downspout to collect runoff then remove and empty. My concern with my method is the residual runoff after I leave. Although most downspouts empty into mulch beds, some don’t and it can burn the grass or bleach out the area that it runs off to.
Mulch beds are often the worst, since it’s usually close enough to kill a plant that they care more about than they do grass… I gave my guys both options, but in the gutter itself is preferable IMO. If it’s tough to get to, then stuff it in the downspout.
