Need to quote for a job that's probably way too big for me

Hi guys, I have yet another opportunity to quote for a job that is clearly too big for me. Looking for suggestions on how to approach it. Should I even bother? It’s the two buildings with the red roofs. I need to price for soft washing both buildings and window cleaning on all windows and both sides of the balcony glass. I’ve never cleaned windows before, or buildings for that matter…

So, you have a cobbled together trailer that’s a trainwreck of a layout, cheap equipment, no experience with large buildings, no experience cleaning windows, yet somehow get to quote this job and think you can get it?

What kind of answers are you looking for here? If you just want to post stuff to post it and looking for attention, try Facebook.

If you don’t want to be helpful, you don’t really have to reply… There is this thing called just scrolling on…

Anyways, I passed on this job after I couldn’t find anyone more experienced to partner with me for it. I do know when something is way out of my league, that’s when I reach out for help…

Man, the internet really lets people say things they wouldn’t in real life. A simple “hey, that’s probably out of your league” would’ve sufficed.

No, I would gladly say this to him in person. What was the point of this post? What other answer was he looking for? “Yeah, you can totally do this!” A good stern response might get him to smartly not even consider jobs like this in the future until he actually has experience and equipment to do it. I helping him not ruin his name and reputation before he even gets going.

Normally I’d agree with you. This one seems like a pretty rediculous post though to be honest.

“I’ve never cleaned windows before, or buildings for that matter…”

Might not want to try on a property this size. Or the building behind it :joy:

Both sides of balcony glass I’m assuming means outside as well as inside every living space that has one cleaned? Is he accessing from outside or inside?

His currently setup is beginner level. It appears to be a 4gpm unit. No shame in that game. I started out with that as well. That means he can do up to 2 story places but it’s going to be a pain in the butt with any wind. That means he’s gonna need a lift. And the trailer setup might be problematic because he’d need access to a water spigot while driving a lift, and trailer movement while going around because that looks like …what, maybe at least 5 trailer moves in order to reach everything with his hose? All over grass or sidewalks for half of it it looks like. :grimacing:

It’s cool he passed because he couldn’t find someone else to help, but this definitely seems like something that I wouldn’t even be talking with people to about until equipment was better or at least had some experience doing buildings under my belt.

I remember coming on here because I’d fallen into some boat condo work that I thought might be too much for me, and it was 2 story and still a pain in the butt to hit the top end of building with my 4gpm unit :joy: I had to carry my a frame ladder everywhere and stand on tippy top pretty much to have enough volume/pressure to clean it. That job was lucrative, but this one is like 8000 times larger than that one. Woof.

Dang, I didn’t see the part about cleaning all glass. That’s bonkers.

We all have to start somewhere… The whole point of forums like this is to be able to get help and guidance. I knew before posting that there was no way I could do this on my own. That was kind of the reason why I posted it in the first place… I did reach out to a couple of other companies to see if they would partner with me on the job, but neither of them had the bandwidth to do it, hence I passed.

I’m a long time window cleaner and wouldn’t take that on😬
