My 1st house to Pressure wash and this $$$

I get a call last week and man says. I have a house for SALE. I would like you to give me a price on to wash.
This house is a OLDER HOUSE right in the middle of a rich subdivision… Like $200,000 houses next door.
I go loo pk at it, its not real big there is also a white wrap around fence out back with green milldew all on it…
I give him a price$ 250 with the white fence $300. He says do the whole place $300…

This guy is out of State. I tell him I will get it on Tuesday… Pose to rain I go today and start… I did one side. Starting the front, a fellow drives up in a van the comes to me and says… Just to let you know I mowed this yard 2 weeks ago and hauled some stuff off… I have NOT GOT PAID YET…
The grass now is about 2’ tall needs cutting bad…

HMmm I’m thinking HMmmm this guy left well I called the man same number on my phone and the sign…
Went to a voice mail… Hmm… I packed up right there thought I will wait till we talk… I want to see who he knows here. I have lived here my whole life and know about every body. City Judge is my best friend…

Tell me how should I handle this one…

Hard to say without knowing more. But from what I’ve read, I probably would have finished the job. I agreed to do the work, so I’m going to do it. For all I know, the homeowner had some reason to not pay the lawn guy, or extenuating circumstances that kept him from paying sooner. As it is, 2 weeks waiting on payment isn’t terribly alarming, and if I had been in the lawn guy’s shoes, I don’t think I’d be ‘warning’ other contractors just yet that the customer might be a dead beat. That seems a little odd to me, tbh.

Worst case scenario, I spend 2 hours and a few bucks in bleach on a job that I never get paid for. The most damage done would be to my ego and sense of fairness. That’ll heal.

But that’s just my take on it. From this point, I’d recommend contacting the customer, being frank but not accusatory about what happened. Let him know what his lawn guy told you, and that you got a bit spooked (ok, probably not the word I would use), but you don’t want to jump to conclusions about what’s going on. Give him an opportunity to explain, and try and use your judgement from there. He might be a deadbeat, but I honestly think it’s a little soon to tell.

I have called the guy now 3 times and no answer… Here in Tennessee in my parts you don’t pay a person for a job done on a house…
You going to have about 4 or 5 broke windows. Cut all wires cables to the house…
House is empty he even told me where the key was… I gonna give him a day or so

well. if you decide to take criminal action at least you “should” have rubber gloves and plenty of bleach to cover your tracks

KIDDING.

if it don’t work out i’d just take it as a loss and see if there is a lesson to be learned.

if you have anything in writing (text messages, e-mails, facebook conversations) it could be worth asking a lawyer about possibilities.

And now he has proof that you’ve threatened to vandalize his property…I sure hope he doesn’t find this thread and send it to his attorney.

You said your best friend is a judge, does he act like this?

Why not ask the judge for help or advice?

Man, you can’t buy a shed for $200k around these parts. A “rich” subdivision around here is in the 1M - 2M range. Usually the more expensive the house the more they complain about the price of maintaining it!

Do you think you have 100% of the story from the lawn guy? Maybe the homeowner uses a third party payment service and it takes time to process. Maybe the lawn guy hasn’t been living up to his duties because he figures the owner is out of state and “he’ll never know”. I wouldn’t use his experience to anticipate your outcome.
My opinion is to Wash the house and fulfill your commitment. Hopefully you’ll get more work from it. Right now, all the neighbors and onlookers have seen is incomplete work and you left the job. For heaven’s sake… How much does it cost to pack up and return later??? I would have washed it the first time and lived with the outcome.
Good luck!

Its too late to share. Lawyers help to crack such deals. One of my relative was also stucked in the same situation. Others recommended her to contact the lawyer to help her with this legal matters. Lawyer gains all of the evidence necessary to build a case against the accused. The legal advisers assist the clients by getting the required evidence to support the case. In case of legal obligation, the job of a lawyer is to offer legal support. Many full articles and other blog sources provides the necessary related information.
