Market research

Anyone have any tips on how to tell if there is a market for this in my area? I know I need to do research just not sure what I’m looking for. I did a Google search for pressure washing services in my area but all that really tells me is that someone thought about this before me ha ha. Thanks in advance

That’s easy. Ride around and see if you see any dirty stuff that needs cleaning, look in well to do neighborhoods also.

Simple as that huh, I like it thanks

What racer said. Also you’ll never know fully until you start pounding pavement and hustling up the work. I have no experience outside of my city but I would think that every area has a market. The part I would be more concerned about is how saturated it is and the going rates. With that said I have noticed that certain areas are more open to some services and not others. Roof cleaning isn’t too common in Louisiana, but it’s slowly catching on. I’ve read that in Florida Roof Cleaning has been popular for decades.

Yeah I completely understand so my previsly mentioned Google search tells me there are 6 currently active PW businesses in my parish roughly 1500 square miles alot of rural area though also surrounding parishes that I could travel to have quite a few but were talking about a large area. Are there any competition to service area ratios that I should look for I realize the less competition the better but what could be considered over saturated?

With the heat and humidity you get I would think this business would be a home run hit! :+1:

Now we are definitely over saturated with heat and humidity. Not too bad right now though 68 and sunny

@SP6483 I agree with Racer… I started because I hated the streaks on my roof and the neighbors…which then lead to house washing… the flatwork… and so the story goes. If you have facebook you may think about creating a poll to see who of your friends in the area would be interested in a cleaner house etc. Might give you a bit more feedback.

Great I’ll start putting feelers out asap. Ide like to be operating by the summer

Also do some demographic research:

  • Population within your work radius
  • Average household income
    • compare that with national and state averages
  • Whatever else you can find out about your area

These will at least partially determine how big you may be able to grow your company, and how specialized you can get in services offered

For my tiny market, it would take a lot of hustle to grow a strictly house washing business beyond a 1 or 2 man team.

In a more populous area, you can find growth more easily with a decent marketing strategy and good work ethic. It still takes hard work, but it’s not the “against all odds” endeavor it would be here.

Listen to this ^

If stuff is dirty ect…doesn’t matter if people aren’t willing to pay.

There are many areas in MI where stuff is dirty…but people don’t have the means to pay for the services.

In my area we have Pfizer, Zoetis, and Stryker = people with $$

That’s the ticket. Remember there’s lots to learn. You need some practice houses. One possiblity if cash is short is use your money for the hand tools and accessories. Rent your pressure washer from HD or other source

Thanks for all the input definitely gonna keep learning everything I can about the area and who to try and sell services to. The economy in this area used to be alot better before 2014 everyone was racking up in the oilfield but then oil prices tanked. Its getting better but still not to what it was. There are some fast developing areas with nice homes and strip malls not far from my immediate area that that I could try and tap into. Also plan on cash flowing everything (no debt) and building a cash cushion seperate from the business for my personal living expenses until the business takes off or I run out of time.

What part of Louisiana are you in? I’m in Nola. Plenty of room for growth here.

Some city’s here in Cali, Are Clean… and people are always cleaning there already visibly clean properties…

On the other hand, Some medium income citys are filthy and they plan in keeping it that way lol… Just cause it’s dirty it don’t mean they are willing to clean…

I’m about 30 mins. south of Lafayette. Abbeville, Kaplan area

I’ve run into the same issue, people just don’t care about dirty patios, sidewalks or driveways. Many people didn’t even realize that dark grey color wasn’t normal.
