Wait I’ve got one for you. A guy I know turned his Jeep into a backhoe! He did all the welding himself

I’ve owned one new vehicle in my life. I’ve had 3 CJ5s. Having said that, I’m gonna get me one of the new broncos

You’ve led a blessed/cursed life. I’ve always wanted a CJ or Wrangler but it has not happened. Instead I’ve owned 4 Cherokees, a Commanche, and a Grand Cherokee. I bought my daughter a Cherokee as her first car. Right now I drive a Rav4 because I put a lot of hwy miles in. :disappointed_relieved:

My favourite vehicle I’ve ever owned was a 1985 landcruiser diesel same as the one below but in white. Sold it with 880,000km on the clock all original engine never had the head or sump off for repairs, ran like a Rolex dripped oil like a bmw, all it cost me was tires, servicing, and 1 radiator fan and an exhaust mount. Crap to drive by today’s standards but I would take it anywhere any time and know it will get me home as long as it had diesel in it. Absolutely bulletproof.

I had a friend that had Lancruisers…they are just not meant for the mud of south Ga…much better suited to drier terrain. And, his was not any more reliable than anything else and was a challenge to get parts for when it was down…but his were both 70’s model gas engines and this was in the late 80’s and early 90"s. A couple of things that really hindered them was very poor articulating suspension and too much weight. They were just a dated design even back then.

His would have been the fj40 series with the 4.2 gas engine, the 75 series landcruiser was the start of the good ones with ultra reliable 4L diesel. There the go too vehicle for militants all around the world mount belt fed machine guns to these things there definetly not short on traction out in the field in vast climates, some of the later cruisers have diff locks, if that doesn’t get you out of the mud you shouldn’t have been there lol. The South Africans love them, there 4x4 expedition tours have have put these vehicles through hell and back, half a million on the clock in 40+ degree heat, I think that’s a pass lol.

His was the FJ…these vehicles are well suited for African type terrain. Even today, that suspension is just not up rough, uneven terrain. Modern design quad coil spring suspensions articulate so much better allowing for use of that traction.

Well I know that lol I’m not comparing early 70s to 2020. What the early FJ’s had suspension wise was on par with what every other manufacturer was doing in the 70s.

Absolutely beautiful. This is our 3rd Toyota and absolutely amazing reliability. 10 out of 10 for sure.
