Looking for opinions on this machine please

Hi all,

I have been around lurking without an account for a long time but just now I’m looking to get started myself. I’m from the UK so a few things appear to be slightly different to you guys in the states but I have a decent understanding from reading a lot of posts on this forum so thank you for that.

Anyway, I’m looking for advice on a machine to get started with and it will be strictly a part time thing that hopefully one day I can turn into a full time business. I am looking at doing driveways mainly and although I know the lowest recommended gpm around here tends to be 4gpm, I have found this machine online and I was wondering if anyone could please take their time to give their opinion on whether or not this is a machine that could do me for the odd job on a driveway here and there.

I just want a machine to get started with to do a bit of work on the side and if this is a bad suggestion then I apologise, I’m simply just looking for assistance.

We’ve all got to start somewhere

Thanks for your time, the link to the product is here eBay

#risky click of the day

So it’s a 2.9 gpm machine… That’s slow work, concrete or house will take forever

Apologies I wasnt sure on the rules for linking etc.

Yeah 2.9gpm so it’s not going to be great I was just looking for something to get me started though.
Thanks for your reply

I ‘experimented’ with that as my first machine, did a deck job for $600 and decided it was not going to work for anything other than basic residential use. It wouldn’t even operate my $100 surface cleaner from Lowes.

Save up, get a 4gpm/4k machine. Even that isn’t an ideal first machine but they are $600 cheaper than belt drives.

Thanks for the advice, dcbrock. Good to hear from someone who has used the machine. I have been looking at some more powerful machines but would only be able to get one on finance and I dont really want to do that at this moment in time.

Not really sure what to go for now, just assessing my options.

As mentioned you’d have a heck of a time doing concrete with that. It’s just not feasible.

Have you looked into buying used to at least get started? If you’re determined to give it a go and, on a budget, that’s what I would do.

Also HD rents them!

I’m pretty sure he doesn’t have a Home Depot in England.

Good point. I bet the UK equivalent rents them too. :+1:

Hi @Viper :+1:t2:

How much is that one? Can’t seem to see it in the link.

Have you heard of Rutland Pumps? They are very well stocked and have lots of experience. They do cheap Loncin powered machines that are much better built than the link you posted. I’d go Honda if you can.

These guys sell pumps, gearboxes, belt drives, hose, swivels, reels - the lot, so you could even consider building your own over time. Just a thought

The eBay one doesn’t have easily swappable parts. Built in unloader, built in injector, sealed pump, low flow, cheap quality. I get you have to start somewhere, but that will be a throw away item most likely.

If you get a second hand one, it can be used as a second helper machine or a back up. Looking ahead that is…

Here:

Honda ones I’d recommend over the eBay one…
