@BigJake what diameter was the hose joining the 2 machines together and what was the diameter of your pressure hose?
I’d hate to see this guy’s books at tax time. Math was not his strong suit. With all the siamese fittings, that 4th machine is essentially negated. 3 guys/triggers on 3 separate machines would clean just as fast as 3 guys on 4 siamesed machines. He’d be much better off selling all 4 or 5 machines and buying 3 8gpm’s.
3/8’s. Same as I run my single 8’s on, which one 8 will launch an 18” sc if it’s not weighted down. 2 5gpm’s, same size hose, barely hovered it a little more than one 5gpm. The check valves needed take too much pressure just to open up. Now, run without check valves, and it may work better. At least until something blows.
Get one of them big bad boy 40gpm udor pumps! Lol!
…
@OC2X well make your mind up! There could have been 9 machines all running Individually. Without you actually going over to the truck introducing yourself, and getting a tour of there setup and plumbing arrangement it’s just speculation really. When I go for a dive and see a shadow swim past in the back of my eye I don’t tell my friends I saw a 4 meter great white. I simply don’t know! Could have been?
I saw 1 dude’s pile of scrap metal when it was over with, never saw them actually running,
Two 5gpms hooked together with 1/2" and 1/2" pw line with pressure trap unloaders. one fed way harder than the other , by the time it was over 1 pump and unloader survived. That’s all I had to see.
Probably wasn’t running check valves. Either way, there’s a reason most reputable pw parts suppliers don’t carry siamese kits any more.
Funny as your hypothesis may be.
I did go over and chat with the fellow.
How else would i know he was the owner/operator? Or that they were in fact siamesed. Which he confirmed.
He clearly saw my trailer when i pulled up. I got out and said hello and asked to check his set up out. He told me a pleasantries about staying after it. How many years hes been in business etc. All whilst letting me check it out and answer a few of my questions.
I took less than 10 mins of the mans time as he was literally working on a commercial property.
Then i left happy to have met someone in this industry who was kind and had the patience to show a young buck a thing or two. As well as be treated as kindly as the next individual, not competition etc.
Probably would have netted him close to 8 gpm per trigger. Why pay for five 5.5’s when you can pay less for three 8 gpm’s is my question?
Around here, if you went and asked to check out a dude’s plumbing arrangement, you’d probably walk away with a black eye and a broken jaw
I am not promoting or tearing anyone down for the use of siamese. I started with a simple question
Has anyone actually seen it work or fail?
I have one time. Dont care to defend one guy i saw doing it. I dont have all the answers to …why…how…whats benefit.
I dont know didly about it.
But i have seen it in action once. And it seemed to work just fine at the time.
Thank you all for your responses.
Could you imagine the fuel consumption just for 3 triggers ?
Thats what i was glad to be treated nicely not like competition. He was a professioal fellow.
If the search bar’s working (it’s moody), there are a couple threads on siamese setups. I know because I was wondering the same thing before I experimented with it.
Ain’t knocking anybody for the question. It’s just a horse that’s been beat to death on here year after year. But I’ll admit its amusing to talk about year after year. But I have a PW addiction problem
I remember all this! But forgot how many cumbersome vanguards were on the truck. It doesn’t even matter bud! The point is don’t use Micky mouse equipment, buy once, cry once
Another reason I ditched the experimenting and upgraded to 8’s. On commercial flat work, I was going through 2-3 gallons per hour running 2 machines. Over twice the fuel consumption, but a good bit less than twice the results.
@BigJake ,How do you feed to 8gpm’s water at once ? Hydrant? Giant buffer?
I run two 5.5gpm off one trailer ,350 gallon buffer, and it takes a watchful eye to not let um run dry within 2 hrs most the time
I run them off a single 300 gal tote. Commercial, I rarely have an issue with it keeping up. Residential, I run 3/4” hose to the house and put it directly in the tank, bypassing my Hudson float valve, except for on the rare occasion that someone’s water pressure regulator is outta wack and it overflows. Some houses, we put a y adapter on the spigot and run 2 hoses. Everything around here is city water for the most part. I washed only 2 houses last year that were on wells. I have run off hydrants, and plan on picking a meter up for the county the bulk of my work is in once the season picks back up. Just gotta find a good filter to put online pre-buffer. I open the hydrant up and water for the water to get clear before hooking anything up, but it will still clog up a filter post-buffer in no time.
