Knock off muck boots

Have you tried Salomon for hiking shoes? I’ve had the X Ultra for over a year. I love them. I was just noticing the other day how little of the tread had worn, and I wear them a lot.

I had a pair of theirs years ago when I was doing more (any) hiking, and they wore very well. Their ski boots were pretty decent too

I used to wear 5.11 combat boots until I discovered Timberland White Ledge hiking boots about 10 year ago. Haven’t bought anything else since. I have a nice pair I wear to the grocery store, 2 work pairs which I alternate between jobs & one hideous pair for everything else. They last a solid year before the rotation occurs. They don’t replace muck boots but they are awesome.

Nice! I may need to check a pair of these out! I had a pair of Wolverines that I loved, but they had a seam around the toe that started coming out after a while (poor care to blame likely…left them muddy too many times). Can’t find them anywhere anymore though. These may fit the bill nicely at about the same $100 pricetag. I like them not having the composite toe, since it looks like they may be stiff enough there to fend off the minor impacts…

They are more comfy than a pair of Nike tennis shoes & weigh about the same. Rack Room Shoes has a deal (2nd pair half price) so I just go in & buy 2 at a time haha. They handle abuse like nothing I’ve ever owned.

I wore a Solomon X Ultra 3 hiker variants for the first 500 miles of the Appalachian Trail last year and they absolutely mauled my heels. I was so excited to wear them, I had thought they were great as I’d had pairs before used on smaller hikes and casually. But with the added weight of a 30lbs pack the heel area became a giant blister party. I prefer a wider footbox as Solomons can run pretty narrow and ultimately went through several pairs of Altra mid-rise hikers for the rest of our hike. The tread of my solomons did hold up by comparison though and I would definitely recommend if not using for backpacking. The quick zip laces cant be beat!

That’s a bummer!

I’ve hiked in them a fair amount but it’s smaller hikes of 2-6 miles. Mostly, though, I wear them as my everyday shoe. I really like the feel and the look. I didn’t care for the zip laces at first but now I love them.
