KItchen Hood Cleaning Newbie

Hello everyone, my name is Mike.

I used to be an employee of a local exhaust cleaning company. Ever since I was an employee I have wanted to start my own hood cleaning business! I have a pretty detailed business plan, and list of things I need to purchase. I am just having problems deciding on what pressure washer and rig I need to invest in. I live in Spearfish, South Dakota, so the winters can be pretty rough. The company that I used to work for used a 4x4 Truck and hauled a trailer behind it. While, I like this idea, I do not know if it is necessary to spend that kind of money and 2 things. I see the competing company using commercial vans that are modified with a vent exhaust through the top. I was just hoping to get some opinions on these 2 methods and which one makes more sense money wise (I do not own a truck).

The 2nd thing I need help is deciding what pressure washer I need to purchase. I want to specialize in restaurant exhaust cleaning, but also want to branch out on other areas if possible to get extra cash if I need to.

Any input would be great…I would really like to get some experienced comments to make my final decisions. Thank you all.

Mike, I just checked in on this thread. First thing welcome to the PWRA Forum. I would go with a Hot water skid which would fit into a van. Go with a 5.5/3000 , this is what we use. Its big enough to clean dumpster pads and sidewalks also. Keeping your equipment in a van make it easy to winterize also. Pulling an moving a trailer is a pain and in the snow is doubly difficult. Good luck.
