K7 setup question

Got it, so that’d be the #9.0 on this unit then. Thank you both, @marinegrunt and @fhpressurewashing. And, I’m glad. It’d be easier to get that than a #8.5.

I wonder when the vendors overstate the unit’s spec by going with the max spec of the pump rather than what it can do with the paired engine, if they actually ship out with the correct colored tips bearing this in mind. Not that they are expensive or anything, but it’d be interesting to see how they handle that. It’d be like confessing their marketing gimmicks if shipped out with the correct tips.

Yep, you’re right. You want the #9 not the #8. I went the wrong direction.

So, there seems to be conflicting info on how to set the K7 unloader.
https://envirospec.com/tech-library-categories/unloaders/
EnviroSpec says to keep the trigger gun closed and start with the bolt screwed all the way into the body and start loosening until the pressure is reached.

This video says to open the trigger gun and start with the bolt loosened away from the body and start screwing in until the pressure reached.
Complete opposites.

Those who have set their own K7 or other flow actuated ones, can you share what you’ve found out to be the right way? Or, are they both acceptable?
@Racer @Infinity @Harold

Follow the YT video use suggested tip. That works

Awesome, thank you. Did you do a gpm test afterwards? What were you getting? I think you and I have the identical setup.

Also, you set it for 3000 psi not 3500, right?

I have a k7 on my 5gpm 3k machine. I used the red 0 degree tip that came with my machine held the trigger and adjusted until all I got were drops of water out of the bypass. I haven’t had any problems.

I used the smallest tip that came with the machine ran that up to 3500. I only use the M5 nozzle and my surface cleaner @2000 everything works fine.
I do sometimes run the Jrod not often don’t know the psi it cant be much more than the M5.

If you are going to use a pressure gauge to set your unloader, it goes at the end of the hose, not the pump.

Yeah, I imagine it would read higher at the pump, good point.

Well, that’s what I originally did and it didn’t seem to cause any issues, but someone mentioned that flow actuated unloaders should be set with the pressure gauge instead. So, I re-adjusted the unloader using the pressure gauge this morning. Also, no issue. If this is of any factor, the original method put out 2,500 PSI and the secondary method obviously put out 3,000 PSI. Bob @ Southside said 5% of the output should be coming out of the bypass even when the trigger is open though. :man_shrugging:

I was just using a 6 ft whip line, do you think it’d have made a difference?

Not if you are just planning on washing with 6 ft of hose

Hahah, good point. I was mixing the two different ways of setting an unloader. I guess, that’s what I will be doing tomorrow morning. It was so loud running that GX690 on a full throttle on a high pressure nozzle. My wife who was holding the gun while I was setting the unloader got a back spasm. :joy:

When I texted you the other day I didn’t realize you had a k7 unloader. I’ve only had one of those for about an hour and stopped in the middle of a job to change it back. I don’t like them. If someone offers different advice on how to set them, follow it. @Racer used them and likes them I believe

Now I’m curious on if I need to do it a different way.

No worries, appreciate taking time to send me the info on it. So far, I like how easy it on the hands. My wife will be using it time to time as well, so that’s a nice plus. It’s just interesting that there seems to be at least three different ways of setting it though. I think @Racer got his preset from the dealer. Oh well, I will do some GPM tests and figure it out tomorrow.

If it’s been working well for you, maybe the K7s are more forgiving than people make it out to be?

Idk. I did mine in ignorance. I read a few threads some guy posted a video and IBS said that it was going to get someone killed lol. So I stuck with how he said to do it. So far I haven’t had any issues. I’ve washed at least 30 hours with it. It is easy on the hands. Hope you get it going.
