Just a little copper

So I’ve always had a pretty solid stance on copper anything…“NO!” We have this existing client that is a friend of one of our managers, that just got a new home this year. They booked a house & roof wash, but just told me this bay window roof is copper…

Usually these are on brick facades making a decent seal impossible, with this being vinyl I’m considering we tightly wrap/cover it for the roof wash poriton of the job, maybe even pre-wet it first. I’d think we should be able to leave it wrapped and just not really apply SH from the door to the corner, uncover it after a good rinse then rewash that area without SH?

thoughts, ideas?

Got a pic? How large is it?

I think the problem with washing copper that I’ve seen in my limited exposure is just removing the ‘patina’ from vintage fixtures. If it’s still shiny copper color I don’t think there is much if an issue, especially if one person hits it with plenty of water.

Just my .05, adjusted for inflation. I could be way off lol.

duh…thought I had put it in there…added it now

That heat must be really getting to you.

Yeah, it’s toasty in this office…

Friday I have to drag my fat rear out to manage a 4 truck commercial job, going to be 98…it’ll be a fat burn day. :joy:

Sheesh, that things tarnished already. HW mix not going to bother it. Pre-wet and rinse relatively quick, but that’s probably not even necessary.

I appreciate the info. I’m going to tell them to wrap it with plastic for the roof wash, and “pre-wet and try to avoid it, but keep it rinsed off” for the HW. Maybe dilute the mix a little more than usual too…

I had a dummy that pulled hose over her vinyl railings at her old house last year, and she’s an old friend of an employee, so I want to make sure we don’t look stupid again this year, lol.

That is a pretty common feature on a large majority of the houses around me. I’ve never seen my HW mix do anything to them. I don’t even pre-wet them. I’d say unless you’re doing a roof wash and using a real high concentration, don’t worry about them. My house has it and it looks exactly like your picture. I clean the front of my house probably twice a year just to get the spiderwebs and junk off and it’s never done a thing to that copper.

LOL, do they normally spray front of house doing a roof cleaning?

Probably not a bad precaution though considering history.

Trade ya

It’ll be fine with HW mix. Roof mix will probably spot it up so just pre-wet and rinse like crazy

“normally”, or “regularly”?..one would hope not, but you never know if a gutter drips or whatever. Repainted an entire house last year where we did a roof wash, because it dripped over the side where there was a roof pitch change, and one place someone inadvertently pulled the trigger moving a rung higher on the ladder…if I’m not learning from those expenditures, then I’m just donating money to other local contractors for fun (without the non-profit deduction, lol)

Did this home last week. Was real nervous, but pre-wet and cooled it down, HW mix and rinsed really well. No problem. It only got to 93 degrees that day.
