Side mount that Topaz if at all possible. I had a job where the weight of the ball wasn’t heavy enough the valve going through the top so it stuck shut parked on a perfectly level basketball court. I tied a 14mm socket on there to give it some weight in a pinch & it worked great but you’ll get a little deeper buffer tank anyway through the side. Other than that it’s golden. It’s kept the tank completely full on every job, flat work & everything.

I got the cheaper version with the smaller flow which the representative that I spoke to stated maxed out at 5:00 GPM. I figured that was around the most the residential homes that I service will be flowing anyway. It is a simpler unit with less moving Parts internally and he said was sturdier with less maintenance. I have not had any problem with it, but I wish I would have gone with the megaflow. Each time I run my tank dry, I always question if it would be different with a different flute valve. Might get one this year. Not hard to do the math though on eight out and four in.
Just ordered a second Topaz valve for dual feed purposes to keep my puny 30 gallon buffer tank happy when the water supply is crappy. Using the same parts again. @DisplacedTexan here’s them corkscrew barbs, straight outta Lowe’s. I recently went back & side-mounted the first one & the second one will be also when it gets here. Otherwise no changes in hardware…

I actually grabbed a couple of these the other day just in case I need them. Haven’t put a hose on one yet but they look like they’d grab harder.

WHA?!? According to the data, at the low end of typical house psi at the bib, the TPVC0100DLT will flow like enough gpm to accept like 5 good pressure hose bibs…if you find a house that can dual feed that, ditch that buffer and run a few machines full blast… Long story short, did you test the max flow before you dropped another $100? 
A tee and a pair of check valves was all you really needed IMO. At least you have a a spare 
I would say you need to get out in the field more but you should probably just get out on the boat more. I’m suffering too, from the same deficiency!
