Got my pressure hose reel today. Was wondering if this is normal or damaged…
When a company sets their niche as a cost-leader, they have to cut some corners in order to be sustainable. Unfortunately this is one of those corners.
Buying a $300 hose reel sucks at first, until you realize they spent that extra money doing things right and creating a quality product
Ahhh okay so it’s normal for a cheap real Is what you’re saying?
I’d send it back, take the refund, and spend an extra $60 at sprayerdepot for a hannay
I wasn’t trying to be condescending at all about the reel. But a fifth of the cost of a house wash will get you a reel that will last you ages and not release brass shards into your line/gun
I didn’t take it that way at all! It’s absolutely a cheap reel I just spent a lot on my pressure washer and I figured I’d rather have a better pressure washer than a better reel with my budget. I planned on upgrading after a few jobs, and I would send it back and get a better reel but time is my biggest factor right now because I was waiting on the reel to come In to finish my setup
Copy that. It’s probably not detrimental right now, but you’ll eventually have issues. Starting these companies takes a lot of money if everything is best-of-the-best. Ask any of the old hats here, I guarantee you every single one of them started with equipment that let them down. Wash some houses, put money into upgrades, take over your market, and post the lessons you learn along the way.
Okay thanks man I really appreciate it. So you think the pics I posted are not “damage” it’s basically you get what you pay for kinda thing?
Yes. Companies save money buying cheap fittings (like that 90). Expensive fittings get an extra reaming step from both sides, which clears those burrs. Unfortunately, that’s not the only place they save money. You’ll be fine for a while, just upgrade before you have to
Thank you very much! Will do
Okay good to know. Thank you
Get a yourself a Dremel and have at it. You’re not going to mess anything up chewing on those burrs. There’s no wall thickness there anyway.
It’s not pretty but it will work! Clean them up with a Dremel use some teflon tape on the fitting and go at it!
I got to where I like using the blue thread locker for steel to steel fittings. It’s works awesome. It also makes for a cleaner fitting if you ever have to take them apart. No having to try and wire brush the old tape out of the female side. It’s not like you have to take fittings apart very often though. It just works really good and only takes a second to apply. Try it sometime. I bet you’ll like it.
Okay awesome thank you!
Will do. I appreciate your time
Ahhh okay makes sense I’ll look into that for sure. Thank you very much
You need to buy one of those battery post wire brush things. It has a female end (great for cleaning male threads) and a cone shaped end that is excellent for cleaning out threads. Much easier than cramming a small wire brush in there and doing a piss poor job.
Like this:
I have some small metal ones that are made for a drill but I would just use them with my hand. I’m telling you though. Blue Loctite is where it’s at. It’s all I’ll ever use going forward. Works better than teflon tape. Try it sometime.
I don’t doubt it works but even when you use that you’ll still want to clear all of your threads of residue. Grab one of those terminal cleaners (mine cost $0.98) and shove it in, three full turns and voila it’s done. I’ll stick with my blue teff tape. It never dries out or spills all over my stuff lol
