Its easy to get excited about the business of starting a business. But the business of getting business is another beast. You’re gonna need to feed yourself along the way. I spent a week knocking doors trying to get my first job. A sweet residential services website is the way to start along with a decent pitch for referrals, biz cards, yard signs and some door hangers to hang the five houses around each job that you complete. You’re going to need to find out where you fit in with your local competition. You need to know how much you are worth per hour and some basic profit analysis per hour and how that will translate into your pricing schedule. I made my bones on residential jobs…ironing out the kinks from job to job where time is more forgiving. Not so forgiving in the commercial arena. Its easy to be an equipment junkie at the onset of getting into this business…but, If you’re doing this for real you should already have an equipment list right down to replacement orings and oring picks. You should also be familiar with how all that equipment works, at least in theory. There are a ton of videos on YouTube. Just some friendly thoughts… there are a ton of newbie posts on the forums where all of this is spelled out in more detail.
