I think I upset the neighbor

About 6 months ago my immediate neighbor asked me what I’d charge him to wash his house. It’s a small, 1,200 sq ft home, single story, vinyl sided - super easy. I told him I’d only charge him $50 if I could schedule him in sometime when I have some leftover mix I need to blow through. He said that sounded good to him and that he’d let me know after pollen season (which is right now locally). Well about 3 months ago we got into a dispute about his dogs barking at all hours of the night. He hasn’t spoken to me since that time, but while I was out washing across town this morning my wife called me and said that the neighbor had hired someone else to do their home. I came home around lunch to this - the $99 guy. :man_facepalming:t3: oh well!

Hows the $99 guy worse than the $50 guy?

Just laugh it off and don’t let it get to you.

One thing I have come to understand is that I’ll never understand some people.

I can’t imagine hiring anyone and having them showing up to my house in that.

I’ve seen similar from guys here  guy that washes my house and rentals looks about the same. He’s $110 now though so he’s moving up in the world.

That hose reel is great.

I want to know where he got that thousand foot hose reel! :joy: the home owners that hire that guy don’t want quality work. I don’t see those guys as competition. His customers are not your customers.

What are you judging that on? You’ve never seen his work. It boggles my mind the number of people on here that run 4 or 5 gpm junk equipment, complain about the price of an injector, will spend a week trying to save a nickel finding a vendor with a lower price even if they have sold out to an org, but will bash the $99 guy. That $99 guy was working making twice what the original poster had bid.

Lol IBS you have the $99 guy wash your own stuff?? Makes sense, don’t want your crews to stop making you money lol. I agree there are a few who aren’t half bad but I’ve seen enough red tip wavin guys that don’t have a clue how to wash and who honestly don’t give a darn how it looks when they are done lol. Wouldn’t let them near my house

I’m more bothered that he chose to pay someone double what I quoted to clean his house - and that I’m right next door. I’ll get over it, but talk about a low blow. That’s typically about a $150 house for me, but I tried to do the neighborly thing and set him up with a stupid good deal to try and ensure he didn’t look elsewhere and bring in another company to do the house next door to me. When I was backing into my driveway with my truck the other washer was staring me down like he was also in disbelief. I went out to my truck to restock my cooler for the afternoon and the guy’s dog was hanging out his truck with a chain on it and was leaving a nice steamer in the neighbor’s front lawn. When I got in my truck to leave for the next job the dude had his hose all stretched out across my front lawn. I had “accidentally” frightened the guy as he walked 2 feet in front of my truck while I remote started it from inside.
Oh well, I just needed to vent y’all.

In other news, Amazon delivered me some new Fexzilla hoses last night so I’ve been having fun playing with those this morning.

@Max1 my trailer actually looks decent, especially since I financed some equipment, except for the rust I need to repaint. (It has a metal plate instead of wood, so under the SH got messed up pretty fast) What bothers me is what I pull it with (which I won’t name) I don’t mind it all the time, but I know it makes people think I’m cheap or don’t do good work sometimes. I can’t wait to be able to afford a flatbed. What I have works for window cleaning, but not for pressure washing nearly as well. I do good work though, so you never know he might just have started small and had to work up like me. I don’t like the balance of his trailer, or that it’s a single axel though. I made sure to get a double axel, and both my axel are rated to 3500 lbs, so at least I have that going for me.

When I started I was pulling my trailer with a 06 Pontiac Torrent (small SUV). I think the fella pictured above could have left out and changed a couple things after his first job. Like the 6ft high hose reel and the painted signs lol.

Sounds like karma handled it for you. You fussed about dogs barking and someone else got the job at double the price. You also “accidently” frightened a guy working, while you’re home with no work eating lunch, so Karma may not be done with you. Be kind to all. It will come back to you.

I am allowed to fuss about dogs barking. There is a noise ordinance in my area. We did so politely and in person. The neighbor was stoned at the time and wasn’t able to comprehend apparently or didn’t care. He works nights and isn’t home to know that his dogs were barking constantly. He threatened that he was going to get law enforcement involved because our kids are too loud during the day and how dare I mow the lawn so often as it ruins his sleeping. We offered to move the kid’s trampoline to the other side of our lawn if he wanted us to and we asked that if he would let us know if there was a consistent day of each week and time that would work with his sleep schedule so that I could squeeze in my weekly mowing. There was no getting through it seemed like even when we went back a week later. The dogs unfortunately both froze to death one night about a month ago during a cold snap. We don’t wish that on anyone as we recently had to put one of our dogs down this past year.

And a guy working doesn’t have a valid reason to be in my driveway dragging a hose all the way across my lawn. I understand we all tread or encroach lawns on a daily basis as we are washing, but this guy was out of line I feel. There’s plenty of lawn, before getting to my driveway. The house being washed is numbered 325 in the photo.

Right. Good luck to you with that karma thing though
