I hate artillery fungus

I’ve been getting a few jobs through these Facebook groups. I want to take good care of these people and keep the positive word of mouth going. I got a call the other day to do a house and fence. No problem. I check it out. All vinyl. Piece of cake. Only weird thing is it’s on a corner so I have to do the outside of the fence. No biggie. I didn’t pay much attention to it. Vinyl fences are easy. It actually looked kind of fun because it’s across from my son’s school so he can watch Daddy work. I start working on it today and discover the OUTSIDE of the fence facing the school is covered in effin’ artillery fungus spores! I can’t leave it like that. It looks horrible. My son is watching me. All my son’s friends are watching me. And it’s right by where all the parents come to pick up their kids. All the parents from soccer and t-ball. The president of the PTA. The school principal. Everybody is saying hey and checking out what I’m doing.
Basically everybody on the planet knows I’m washing this fence. It would be horribly embarrassing if I had to leave it covered in artillery fungus. Ugh. That stuff just sucks. Oven cleaner and a Brillo pad. One dot at a time. I did a lot of scrubbing today.

No way I would have done that…I tell the owner about it…tell them I will wash house/fence, but I won’t bother with trying to get that mess off. If need be…I walk away.

I tell people the only thing that works on artillery fungus is dynamite…no way on earth I would have done all that…I don’t care who’s watching

Ah yes, that junk. Bane (boon?) of my existence as a window cleaner. Scraper is the only way I can ever get it off glass.

I see it around here a lot in Austin block / limestone block. Seems impossible to get off. I aint about to hand scrub if that is the only way, let me rephrase that, I would but the price to do so I would think no one will pay. No amount of pressure or chemical I have found so far will dent it. I just tell people it aint coming off and move on.

Here’s some interesting reading. All these years I thought those cups in the mulch were the artillery fungus, turns out it’s called ‘bird’s nest’ and rain splashes disperse it.
