Husqvarna weedwacker carb replacement

Not PW related, but may be useful to someone.

So, I use my weedwacker for about 2 hours straight everytime I use it. In winter I completely drain the unit, start it till it won’t run anymore, then put it away until spring.

This spring I have used it twice, the third time it wouldn’t run for more than 5 seconds, wasn’t pulling fuel. I went and read online that the ethanol in our gas is killing these carbs (for what that is worth). A new unit is about 175 with tax after getting a discount.

SO I bought a replacemnt carb from the big A website. Came from China here is a link https://www.amazon.com/HIPA-545081848-C1Q-W40A-Carburetor-Husqvarna/dp/B01M8QF4C3/ref=sr_1_3?crid=2J1TGVEK7P81R&dchild=1&keywords=husqvarna+128ld+carburetor&qid=1591295909&sprefix=husqvarna%2Caps%2C150&sr=8-3

I installed it and it works just like new. The unit was $15 shipped. Just in case your wondering, like I would, when I removed the carb from the husqvarna it had “CHINA” stamped on it.

Here is the kicker, those fuel lines were a PITA to fish through. I didn’t own bent nose needle nose pliers, so I had to cut those fuel lines a long way at a 45 degree angle, then bend some wire hanger to fish them up enough to get to my needle nose pliers so I could pull it through. Don’t use the spark plug that comes with the new unit.

Just an FYI for people who DYI. I was highly skeptical that it would work, but was pleasantly surprised that it did. If it only last the rest of the year I am ok with that. On a side note, it doesn’t come with an air filter.

Speaking of which, I would like to find out if someone has swapped a GX690 carb into a 630 to see if that’s the only difference.

I’ve had good luck with cheap aftermarket carbs. Like you said, even if you only get a season or two out of them it’s worth it. There are some Briggs carbs that are over $250 but can get them on Amazon for about $35.

It helps to run Sea Foam through the carb at the end of season. It cleans all the gummy ethanol deposits out of the small passage ways. Pour gas out of tank. Fill with a little Sea Foam. Let the engine run. It will first burn the gas left in the carb and then start sucking the Sea Foam in. Some people will even kill the engine and leave the Sea Foam in the carb all winter.

I think @MuscleMyHustle looked at the specs and the carb is the only difference. Look on Amazon for carbs. They all say they fit both the 630 and 690. That probably means they just sell the one with more fuel flow so they can be used on both engines. Give one a try and see how much more psi you get. If it doesn’t give you anymore return it and buy OEM.
