How to educate customers

Hello all, so after months of planing and research I finally feel I have all my ducks in a row and am about to get this thing kicked off. I actually have a house wash scheduled for this weekend. I decided to pass out some business card to the people where I currently work and I had two people here tell me that either bleach dries out vinyl or that people don’t want bleach because it causes that white powder which I assumed he means oxidation. Obviously they are misinformed but it has me wondering how to handle this. I know I should stop saying BLEACH and I’ll work on that. How do you guys handle customers who are mistaken I don’t want to get into the habit of arguing with customers but I also don’t want to turn down jobs because the customer is scared of bleach.

Don’t worry about educating customers. If they question your methods or ask a lot of questions, move on. I don’t expect to be educated by the dog wash guy, the electrician, the cable guy. Do your thing and don’t worry about them

IBS, doesn’t always work that way. About half my WC and PW customers ask what method and chems are used, they don’t like it when you say something to the effect of “If you ask what I use I’m moving on”.

We just don’t have that luxury.

I’m with IBS on this…how many people don’t eat KFC because they don’t know what the secret herbs and spices are…and if they don’t want you to use “bleach” on their house are you going to spend 9 hours hand washing it with soap and a brush for $250 or are you going to move on and do three or four other houses that day and make$750-$1000…
I explain oxidation to people before I wash their house…but I don’t tell them what I use other than that its high end soaps and cleaners!.. now some businesses are another story certain businesses will only let you use hot water no chems, others you can use chems but no SH…others will only let you clean if you’re using a reclaim system… but once again if you can’t abide by what they want you either do it the hard way or you walk away.

If someone ask me if use bleach I tell them that there is some in my wash mix to kill the mildew but I don’t go into what my mix ratios are. Even with elemonator you can still smell the bleach and I don’t want any misunderstandings once I’ve already started washing. To be honest though, most people say they like the way it smells. They say it smells clean.

I’ve only had 2 people ever refuse to have their house washed because of use of chemicals. One is in my neighborhood. Guess what…I drive by their house about once a week and their house is still full of mildew.

Like @Innocentbystander said just move on and don’t take it personally. People don’t clean their showers with just water…especially if there is mold or mildew present. I had a guy ask today what I used on his house. I told him sodium hypochlorite and surfactant. He was like…oh ok. Most people don’t care as long as it’s clean when you leave.

…and then they step into it naked.

Good point :+1:t2:
