How much does it matter if your company name & website name aren't exactly the same?

Marketing is a giant mystery to me. I was looking through the business card thread…

…and noticed quite a few business cards with company names that were different from the website name on the business card. I don’t want it to seem like I’m calling anyone out, so I won’t refer to anyone specifically, but I’m just wondering how much this matters?

Very, very little. The most annoying thing about it is that customers will ask if they should make the check out to “Clean VT” (my web address) instead of my clearly marked business name…

From everything I understand in the state of Georgia, if your business is registered as an LLC, you must use that exact name or it becomes a DBA (doing business as) if you decide on using a DBA, you have to obtain a license for every county you do business in. To avoid that, I’ve registered an LLC, and I only have one annual fee each year and don’t have to deal with individual counties. But that’s Georgia law, suggest for liability/insurance reasons you dig in to verify your states laws. Georgia also doesn’t require contractors to charge sales tax on service related businesses.

What was your reply in response to?

I don’t think he read the question carefully :man_shrugging:

I think the most important factor is that your web address is short, memorable, and easy to spell. If it fits on a license plate, consider it a bonus…

Must have mis-understood :man_facepalming: @CPB I still believe it to be confusing to customers, especially in sometimes trying to locate you, and possibly a legal issue if something arises out of using two names albeit similar in nature. JMO :vulcan_salute:
